The FabriCAD Collection documents the activities of FabriCAD Consulting, a company established by Alison Grudier Hardy in the 1990s to provide consulting services to companies in the fashion and textile industries interested in using Computer Aided Design (CAD). Materials in the collection include information on various CAD systems, articles about FabriCAD, CAD systems, the textile industry, company publications, and fabric samples of CAD printing. The Fieldcrest Mills records primarily contain building plans, site plans, elevations, sections, details, structural and electrical systems drawings and engineering plans for Fieldcrest Mills. These plans are related to a variety of textile mill warehouses located in Leaksville, Spray, and later Eden, North Carolina. Fieldcrest Mills was a Marshall Fields Company that produced an assortment of textiles including blankets, bedspreads, towels, bed sheets, bath accessories, bath rugs, rugs and furniture coverings; their warehouses were located in Draper, Leaksville and Spray, North Carolina. These three towns combined in 1967 to become Eden, North Carolina. The company changed in 1986 when Fieldcrest Mills merged with Cannon Mills of Kannapolis, North Carolina, becoming Fieldcrest Cannon, Inc. Five black and white photo cards, one is 3"x6" while the other four are 5.25"x8.5". The contents of the photographs all depict either fir or spruce trees. The smallest photo card was taken by botanist Burton Orange Longyear, and three of the four larger photos were taken by botanist J.G. Lemmon. The fourth is assumed to be taken by Lemmon as well, though his signature is not included on it. John Gill (J.G.) Lemmon (c. 1830-1908) was an American Botanist, Civil War Veteran, and former prisoner of war who acquired an interest in botany while living with his family postwar. He and his wife, Sara Plummer, went on to identify a wide variety of plants in the Western United States, establish the name of Mount Lemmon, and also established an herbarium in Oakland, CA. He was known as “the botanist of the West”.Burton Orange Longyear (1868–1969) was an American botanist, forester, mycologist, and gem cutter. Longyear studied botany and chemistry at the State Agricultural College of Michigan (now Michigan State University). He taught and worked as a botanist at the college before graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1903. The Frances M. Richardson Papers document Professor Frances Marian (Billie) Richardson’s career at North Carolina State University as a research professor, scientific investigator, administrator, and instructor in the School (now College) of Engineering. Dating from 1928 to 2000, with the bulk of material from 1951 to 1993, the collection includes reports, proposals, publications, conference handouts, research notebooks, notes, correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, and one 16 mm film. The collection also documents Richardson’s involvement in a variety of professional societies, such as the Society of Women Engineers and Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society, and her professional development outside of the university. Much of her research and teaching focused on topics in chemical and biomedical engineering, and the collection contains research, advising, and course materials related to these areas of study. Frances Marian (Billie) Richardson (1922-2018) was the first woman faculty member of the School (now College) of Engineering at North Carolina State University. From 1951 to 1980, she was a research associate professor in the Department of Engineering Research, and held various teaching positions at NC State University until her retirement in 1992. Her research and publications focused on the areas of fluid mechanics and infrared imaging thermography, as well as respiratory physiology and tracing the flow of non-Newtonian fluids using radioactive tracer displacement techniques. Richardson received a B. S. in chemistry from Roanoke College in 1943 and an M. S. in chemistry from the University of Cincinnati in 1947. Less

The Frances Massey Collection of Phi Psi Records, 1929, 1972-1989 and undated, contain publications and photographs related to Phi Psi Fraternity, a national textile professional fraternity. Frances Wilson Massey (1929-) was the first female faculty member in the College of Textiles at North Carolina State University, where she taught from 1963 to 1993. Frank Hammond Scrapbook consists of correspondence, biographgical information, newspaper clippings, photographs, and other documents from his time as Director of Bands at NC State from 1982 to 1994. Dr. Frank M. Hammond was Assistant Director of Music and Director of Bands, the marching band, symphonic band, British Brass Band, trombone choir, tuba choir, and the jazz ensemble, at NC State from 1982 to 1994. He also taught "Understanding Music," "Survey of American Music," and "History of Jazz" at NC State University. Dr. Hammond retired in 1995. The Frank Harmon Papers, 1961-2019, document the professional activities of Harmon and his architectural firm. The collection is arranged into eight series: Project Files, Drawings, Photographs, Architectural Models, Office Files, Digital Media, Harwell Hamilton Harris Files, and Web Content. Project files include correspondence with clients. Architectural drawings include iterations of designs, as well as final construction documents. Photographs document the construction process. Article files concern Harmon’s publications. Models exist for a limited number of projects. Web content contains the official website of Harmon's firm and a Tumblr collecting sketches and other materials by Frank Harmon. Also included in the collection are architectural drawings by Harmon's close friend, architect Harwell Hamilton Harris, and files from Jean Murray Bangs Harris. Frank Harmon is a renowned modernist architect in Raleigh, North Carolina, and attended North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) School of Design from 1959 to 1962. Later, he taught at his alma mater for more than 20 years. Born in Georgia in 1941, Harmon was raised in Greensboro, North Carolina. After attending NC State University, he went on to graduate from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, England, in 1967. He stayed in London for 11 years, beginning his first practice there. From 1979 to 1981, Harmon was a visiting professor at Auburn University’s School of Architecture and Fine Arts. In 1981, he established his own firm in Raleigh, North Carolina: Frank Harmon Architect. Since 1992, his firm has won more professional association design awards than any firm in North Carolina for both residential and commercial projects. In 1995, the firm was awarded the Kamphoefner Prize for innovative modern design over a ten- year period. Harmon became an American Institute of Architects (AIA) Fellow in 1988. This collection includes a cartoon of NC State football running back Ted Brown passing a "200 yards" sign and using a tractor to run over a UNC player. It includes "34 to 7," a reference to the game played October 21, 1978 when NC State defeated Carolina. The cartoon is signed by Frank Harville. Ted Brown was a running back for the Wolfpack football team from 1975 to 1978. He helped lead NC State to the Peach Bowl in 1975 and 1977 as well as the Tangerine Bowl in 1978. They were champions in the 1977 Peach Bowl and Tangerine Bowl. Brown earned many individual honors as well: he was ACC Rookie of the Year, a four-time first-team All-ACC winner, and MVP of the Tangerine Bowl. He rushed for 4,602 yards during his college career. The Frank Houston Smith Papers consist of documents related to Smith and Drs. John O. Halverson and Francis W. Sherwood, two of his colleagues at the North Carolina Agricultural Experiment Station (later Agricultural Research Service) at the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University). The bulk of the collection, 1929-1942, consists of professional correspondence of Halverson regarding gossypol, a toxin in cotton plants and cottonseed meal. Frank Newton Phillips, Jr., was an civil engineering student at North Carolina State College. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree in 1937. He remained in North Carolina, and during his career he worked on projects for Piedmont Natural Gas, Colonial Pipeline, and the Greensboro airport. He died in 2010 at age 94. Less

This collection of photographs contains black-and-white photographic prints depicting NC State baseball coaches Vic Sorrel and Sam Esposito, was well as the 1968 College World Series-winning team. These were owned by Frank Weedon and may have been displayed in his office on the NC State campus. Frank Weedon (1931-2013) had a long career in NC State Athletics from 1960 to 1996. He was the Sports Information Director until 1971 when he became Assistant Athletics Director. In retirement, he assumed the role of unofficial NC State athletics historian. Less
