Tocher (1921-1981) was a computer scientist who contributed to the field of computer simulation. He earned degrees from University College London (1941) and the University of London (1946) and the Imperial College London (1952). He worked for United Steel Companies and developed the first discrete-event simulation package, the General Simulation Program (GSP). He was a professor of operational research at the University of Southampton and was awarded the silver medal of the Operational Research Society in 1967. He served as president of this group from 1972-1973.
