Sargent studied simulation methodology and modeling at the University of Michigan. After completing his Ph.D. in 1966, he joined the faculty at Syracuse University, where he taught simulation until retiring in the late 1990s. Sargent made significant contributions to several areas of simulation research and software development and was widely involved in professional service activities.
