The Institute for Nonprofit Research, Education and Engagement (sometimes called the Institute for Nonprofits) has been a multidisciplinary center devoted to strengthening the capacity of nonprofit organizations and nonprofit leadership through research, education and engagement. The Institute began as the Nonprofit Initiative within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2002. It was formally established in 2003 with $1,000,000 matching gift from the A.J. Fletcher Foundation. In 2004, the undergraduate minor in nonprofit studies was created. In 2005, the Institute received its first research contract.
