The first is a three-page, handwritten letter, dated 2 September 1904, from Royal White to "Mama" and describing his first few weeks as a student at North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. The second document is a handwritten transcription of the letter, made by Linda White, who is Royal White's granddaughter. Royall Edward White was originally from Aulander, North Carolina. He first attended North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (which later became North Carolina State University) in 1904. He studied civil engineering, and he graduated in 1908 with a bachelors degree in engineering. After graduation, he worked in his profession for 55 years.
