MoreCyma Rubin is an award-winning director, producer, writer and curator. She is currently the president of Business of Entertainment Inc., in New York. Rubin formerly founded an interior and industrial design company, Cyma Ackerman, Inc., and a theatrical production company, Pyxidium, Ltd. She has actively supported numerous cultural programs and the arts. Rubin graduated from North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) with a degree in textile management. The Cyma Rubin Papers, 1942-2016, document many of the projects Rubin has produced during her career, including interior design work; hosting events for the United Nations and for the American Symphony Orchestra; producing Broadway shows, movies, multimedia productions, television shows, and cultural productions for Nippon TV; and curating photographic exhibits and books. Included are correspondence, legal documents, photographs, programs, press releases, press clippings, scripts, promotional merchandise, research material, audiovisual material, and costumes related to theatrical and film productions and other projects.

King Papers contain correspondence, political campaign materials, newsletters from a variety of local and national organizations, flyers, clippings, membership rosters, fundraising information, invitations, precinct maps, journal articles, newspaper editorials, and reports and resolutions on political issues. The majority of the material was generated through Cyrus King's work to promote civil rights and racial justice and his work on political campaigns. Correspondence includes letters to and from political figures. There are also documents that relate to his time as a librarian at North Carolina State University and a small amount of personal correspondence. Materials range in date from 1932 to 2014, with the majority dated after 1980. Cyrus Baldwin King (1922-2014), worked in the North Carolina State University Libraries for over twenty years and was active in a wide variety of efforts to promote civil rights and social justice. He was hired by N.C. State as an acquisitions librarian in 1963 and retired in 1984 as Assistant Director for Collection Management and Development. He was very politically active, writing tirelessly in support of the causes that he has adopted, most notably racial justice, campaigns to promote peace and non-violence, and other civil rights causes.

Dan Jahn is a professional photographer based in Cary, North Carolina. In 2003 he became the photographer of the North Carolina State University Marching Band. Marching bands have existed at North Carolina State University since the 1890s, and they have had drum majorettes since at least the 1940s.

MoreThe David C. Fischetti Papers, 1962-2011, document the professional career of David Fischetti and the work of his professional engineering firm, DCF Engineering, Inc. This collection is arranged in three series: drawings, project files, and professional files. The collection consists primarily of architectural drawings and paperwork associated with client projects and Fischetti’s professional development. The projects include covered bridges, historic structures, parks, university campuses, churches, civic facilities, and a few residences. Also included are book and presentation drafts, conference ephemera, photographs, and testimony given by Fischetti in several lawsuits. Geographically, the project files represent projects located primarily, though not exclusively, throughout the eastern seaboard. David Carmichael Fischetti (1946-2011) was born in Brooklyn, New York. He earned a BS in Civil Engineering from Clemson University in 1969. In 1975, Fischetti opened his own firm, DCF Engineering, Inc., in Cary, North Carolina, which he operated until his death. He was registered as a Professional Engineer in nineteen states. Fischetti’s engineering projects often focused on historic structures, including covered bridges, churches, and historic properties. His best known project in North Carolina was the twenty-year-long effort to relocate the historic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, for which he was the engineer of record. For his preservation work, Fischetti was lauded with scores of awards from various state preservation societies and national professional associations.Fischetti was an active member of state- and national- level professional engineering and historic preservation associations. He gave numerous conference presentations, published scholarly papers, and taught several courses. He was a Professional Fellow of the Historic Resources Imaging Laboratory, School of Architecture at Texas A&M University and received the Orthogonal Medal from the faculty of Graphic Communications at North Carolina State University in 2000. In 2009, Fischetti published a textbook, “Structural Investigation of Historic Buildings.” Fischetti died in March of 2011.

These projects are located throughout the Southeastern United States, including Tennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia. The collection also contains a binder on Lose's career and career highlights. David Lose, FASLA, was the founder and President Emeritus of the Nashville-based firm Lose & Associates. Lose is known for his planning and implementation of public parks, greenways, and recreational areas. In 1968, he graduated from NC State's College of Design with a B.A. in Landscape Architecture. One of his more notable projects was the 125,000 acre Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area located on Tennessee’s Cumberland Plateau. Other projects include Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area in Kentucky and Tennessee, and the Gateway Trail greenway system in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Lose was elected Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) in 1992, received many ASLA Excellence Awards, was a past chair of the National Recreation and Park Association Board of Trustees and also the Tennessee State Board of Architects, Engineers and Interior Designers. Lose retired in 2008 and sold his firm to four of his associates. He died in June 2017.

MoreThe David W.W. Moore Collection on the Moses Rountree House collection (1970-2010) consists of four folders that originally in a binder organized by David W.W. Moore. The collection contains photos, newspaper clipppings, hand-written notes, and documents related to the Moses Rountree House. This collection documents the history of the Moses Rountree House which was built in 1869 by Oswald Lipscomb. Moses Rountree was one of the most prominent leaders of Wilson society in the nineteenth century. His activities helped to shape the economic, political, physical and the educational environment of the town of Wilson. Rountree was of English descent, and his ancestors came to Nansemond County, Virginia before 1700. Like many Virginians, the Rountree family began to acquire land over the border in North Carolina and by the early eighteenth century the family owned property on the banks of Contentnea Creek in what later became Wilson County. Moses Rountree was the son of Lewis Rountree and Elizabeth Daniel. He was born in 1822 on the family plantation several miles east of the present city of Wilson on what is now Route 264. Rountree was considered one of Wilson's leading nineteenth century merchants. He had several commercial ventures, including the establishment of a merchandise firm and his procurement of properties in Wilson.

Atlee Burpee & Co. and contains 17 annual publications of other nursery and seed companies, including Gurney's, Schell's, and Iowa Seed. The date span is 1883 to 2013, but there are some gaps. In addition to the annual catalogs, the collection contains such ephemeral materials as envelopes, order forms, inserts about products, price lists, money order forms, catalog request forms, and other materials. Dennis Werner, a professor in the Horticultural Science at North Carolina State Univeristy, has collected historical seed catalogs (primarily Burpee Seed) throughout his career. W. Atlee Burpee (1858-1915) began a mail-order company in the 1870s, and he experimented with selective breeding and hybridization for the improvement of animals and plants. By the 1890s Burpee had became the largest seed company in the world. The business's annual catalog (begun by 1881) was an important marketing tool, and it played a significant role in the company's success. In the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century other nurseries and seed companies also became famous, in part, because of their catalogs. These included Ferry (later Ferry-Morse), Gurney, Iowa Seed, Earl May, Schell, and others.

MoreThe Derby Lane Greyhound Track Records contain photographs, scrapbooks, clippings, programs, operational records, audiovisual materials, artifacts, and various publications. These materials encompass the full range of the organization's racing operations, promotions, and live events. Additionally, the records reflect the organization's particular focus on promotion through various media outlets such as news reports, radio promos, print advertisements, and branded materials. Derby Lane, also known as St. Petersburg Kennel Club, was one of the oldest greyhound tracks in the United States. To establish the racetrack, a group of local business owners purchased a portion of land from T. L. Weaver, a lumber entrepreneur, near St. Petersburg, FL. After constructing the racetrack, financial hardship fell on the original owners, and the ownership reverted to Weaver's lumber company. The inaugural race was held on January 3, 1925. Since then, almost a century, Derby Lane entertained people, welcomed celebrities, and cheered champion greyhounds. Over time, Debry Lane went through technological innovations and modernized the industry. It included the Derby Lane Poker Room offering various gaming options. In addition to greyhound racing, Derby lane hosted a variety of entertainment including concerts, beer tastings, and on-location shoots for major motion pictures. In 2018, Florida Amendment 13 banned wagering on greyhound racing, putting an end to greyhound racing in the state. Derby Lane held its last races in December 2020.

Sapp was born January 23, 1920 in Concord, North Carolina. He attended State College (now NC State University) from 1940 to 1944 and graduated with a degree in Textile Manufacturing. During part of his time at State College, Sapp lived at the Charles Doak house. Doak had been baseball coach and both of his sons played football and baseball at State College. Sapp was student manager of the baseball team in 1943 and 1944 and was a sports writer for the Technician student paper, primiarly writing about football and baseball. After graduation, Sapp embarked on a career in textiles, working for Celanese and later J.P. Stevens as a quality control manager. He passed away on January 14, 2015.

MoreThe Dorianne Louise Laux Papers contains a wide variety of materials that document her career as a student, poet, and professor in creative writing. Included are published works, manuscript materials, personal and professional correspondence, newspaper clippings and articles, datebooks and calendars, teaching and workshop materials, photographs, literary festival and conference materials, audiovisual recordings of poetry readings, and promotional materials. Also, Laux amassed a collection of materials relating to friends and colleagues, such as poets Jane Hirshfield, Joe Millar, Kim Addonizio, Philip Levine, and Sharon Olds. The collection ranges in date from 1968 to 2019. Dorianne Louise Laux (1952- ) is a poet who authored several collections of poetry, including Awake (1990), What We Carry (1994), Smoke (2000), Facts about the Moon (2005),The Book of Men (2011), and Only As the Day Is Long: New and Selected (2019). She is also the co-author, with Kim Addonizio, of The Poet’s Companion: A Guide to the Pleasures of Writing Poetry (1997). Laux taught at the University of Oregon’s creative writing program and has been a professor for North Carolina State University's creative writing program since 2008, and core faculty at the MFA Writing Program at Pacific University since 2006. Her teaching and research interests include contemporary American poetry, women's poetry, the poetry of work and class, the poetry of sex and death, narrative design in poetry and short fiction, close readings of works, and poetry broadsides.

His first position at a zoo was curator of mammals at the Columbus Ohio Zoo in 1963. He later became staff veterinarian and assistant director. His next appointment, in 1966, was as the veterinarian at the Omaha Zoo. Dr. Simmons later became assistant director and then, in 1970, the zoo director. After his retirement as director he served as the chairman of the board for the Omaha Zoo Foundation. Dr. Lee Simmons is Director Emeritus of the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha, Nebraska.
Kristina Baltutis, DVM, is a graduate of NC State's College of Veterinary Medicine. At the time of the interview she was a student at the College of Veterinary Medicine.

The collection contains bylaws, annual reports, meeting agendas, membership lists, correspondence, trademark applications, newsletters, brochures, flyers, trail guides and maps, trail studies, project plans, and audiovisual materials. The collection includes materials from the offices of cofounder and executive director, Karen Votava, cofounder and chair, Patricia King, and board member, Elizabeth V. Brody. The materials are dated from 1983 to 2018. The East Coast Greenway Alliance is a non-profit organization founded in November 1991. It was formed by a group of eight cyclists and long-distance trail enthusiasts who met in New York City, New York, in 1991 to establish the East Coast Greenway Alliance after meeting previously at a bicycling conference in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Since its conception, the East Coast Greenway Alliance has designed a route along the eastern coast of the United States, with the goal of establishing a 3,000-mile protected biking and walking route from Calais, Maine, to Key West, Florida. The East Coast Greenway Alliance has dedicated itself to forming extensive partnerships across organizations and states and spreading the word about its trails and events. Its organizational values include a commitment to public health, environmental sustainability, economic development, and civic engagement.

MoreThe Eduardo Catalano Papers contains articles, news clippings, magazines, and books on Catalano's architectural projects and professional accomplishments, as well as photographs, digital photographs, photographic slides, negatives, positive transparencies, design drawings, and one videocassette. This includes books, articles, and other writings authored by Catalano, and diplomas, certificates, and certifications he received during his professional and educational careers. The collection also contains metal printing plates of Catalano's designs used in various publications covering his work. Many of these publications can be found in the Printed Materials, Writings, and Correspondence series. There is also a small amount of correspondence. Eduardo Fernando Catalano (1917-2010) was a well-known modernist architect and Head of Architecture at the School of Design at North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) from 1951 to 1956. Catalano was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on December 19, 1917. He attended the Universidad de Buenos Aires and graduated in 1940 with an Architect's Diploma and honors for his coursework. Having received scholarships to pursue studies in the United States, Catalano relocated to attend the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University. He graduated in 1944 and 1945 respectively with a Master of Architecture degree. At Harvard, Catalano studied under two masters of modernist architecture, Walter Gropius and Marcel Breuer.

He has been the public address announcer for NC State football and women's basketball games. His interest in photography has resulted in the creation of thousands of images of the NC State campus; Raleigh, North Carolina; and other locales.

MoreThe Edwin F. Harris Papers, 1957-2014, collection contains drawings, blueprints, maps, correspondence, photographs, and other documents related to the professional career of Edwin F. Harris. The collection reflects Harris’ work as an architect on a number of university campus planning projects and commercial building projects. During his more than two decades of employment with North Carolina State University, Harris contributed to the design and construction of many portions of the university, including Centennial Campus and the College of Veterinary Medicine. Harris also contributed to the design of several commercial buildings in North Carolina’s Research Triangle and buildings on other North Carolina university campuses. These projects include The Carolina Theatre and the North Carolina Biotechnology Center in Durham, the Worrell Professional Center at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, and the YMCA at Guilford College in Greensboro. Edwin F. Harris, nicknamed "Abie," was born January 7, 1934, in Elkin, North Carolina. He graduated from Elkin High School in 1952 and enrolled at the North Carolina State College, School of Design (later North Carolina State University, College of Design) to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in architecture. He graduated with honors in 1957. Harris was awarded the 45th Paris Prize in Architecture in 1958 which he used to travel to Paris, after a period of Army service. After returning from Paris, he became a lecturer at the NC State University School of Design and joined Leif Valand and Associates as an Architect-in-Training. In 1966 he was a co-founder and partner of Harris & Burns, Architects (1966-1968) and then a co-founder and principle for Envirotek, Inc. (1969-1974). In 1966, Harris also joined the campus planning department at NC State University. In 1970 he became Director of Facilities Planning and in 1980 University Architect. In addition to being an avid runner, Edwin F. Harris spent much of his spare time participating in design competitions and serving as a consultant on various projects. His honors include the grand prize in a planning competition for the University of Miami in 1986, his election as an American Institute of Architects Fellow in 1987, and the 9th Annual Frank B. Turner Award in 1991.
