The Park Scholarships were established at North Carolina State University in 1996 with a grant from the Park Foundation of Ithaca, N.Y., to fund an inaugural class of 25 scholars. The Park Scholarships program was named for Roy H. Park, NC State University class of 1931. The Program was established to provide a superb educational opportunity for exceptionally talented and well-prepared young men and women who merit the intellectual challenge of a distinguished faculty and a superior university. The records of the Office of the Chancellor at North Carolina State University during Randy Woodson's administration contain invitations and cards, congratulations certificates for Chancellor Woodson's installation, the daily correspondence of the Chancellor's Office, and the official website of the Chancellor. In July of 2015, the Chancellor's Office went paperless with all documents being stored in a digital document management system. William Randolph (Randy) Woodson is the fourteenth chancellor of North Carolina State University. He received his BS, MS, and PhD degrees in horticulture from the University of Arkansas and Cornell University, respectively. Woodson began his academic career at Louisiana State University in 1983, and joined the Purdue faculty in 1985 as a professor in the Department of Horticulture. Woodson served as head of the Department of Horticulture until moving on to administrative positions at Purdue, first as the associate dean of agriculture and director of the Office of Agricultural Research Programs from 1998 to 2004, and then as the as the Glenn W. Sample Dean of Agriculture. In May 2008, Woodson became the executive vice president for academic affairs and provost, his final position at Purdue before being named to the Chancellorship at NC State on 8 January, 2010. Less

The Division of Undergraduate Academic Programs at North Carolina State University offered programs that enhanced intellectual and personal development and provided students with academic and career assistance. The division also helped colleges, departments, and faculty with their curriculum and policy development. Several existing programs overseeing undergraduate academics were brought together in 1991, forming a new Division of Undergraduate Studies - which was overseen by a dean. Beginning in 1997, the Division was led by a vice provost, and in 2001, the name of the Division was changed to the Division of Undergraduate Affairs. There are general records as well, which contain materials related to the building of the Cultural Center Annex, now the Witherspoon Student Center, and the African American Cultural Center's involvement in the planning. The African American Cultural Center promotes awareness of and appreciation for African American and other African descent experiences through activities and events that enhance academic excellence and strengthen cultural competence for the campus and surrounding communities. The North Carolina State University, Office of the Provost, Confucius Institute Records include newsletters about the activities of the Institute. Materials range in date from 2012 to 2018. The Confucius Institute, based in the Office of Global Engagement on NC State's campus, offered Chinese language courses for NC State students, K-12 teachers, businesses, and community members. The Institute also supported cultural programs and outreach activities. Confucius Classrooms were based in four institutions: Central Carolina Community College, Enloe High School, Saint Augustine's University, and Concord High School. The North Carolina State University, Office of the Provost, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Center Records, 1978-2024, document a portion of the history of the LGBTQ community on NC State's campus as well as the creation and function of the LGBTQ Pride Center (formerly the GLBT Center). The collection contains flyers, reports, surveys, news clippings, workshop and training materials, zines, photographs, and posters. These materials and the digital files also included in the collection pertain to events such as LGBTQ History Month, Transgender Awareness Week, and Lavender Graduation, as well as workshops and trainings such as Transgender 101 and Project SAFE. There are also documents related to the 1980s LGBTQ student groups and organizations that were precursors to the LGBTQ Pride Center. Also included are artifacts including t-shirts, tablecloths, plaques, and sashes from Lavender Graduation. The digital files included in this collection cover organizations and clubs, events and event planning, and workshops and trainings given by the Center. The NC State LGBTQ Pride Center (formerly the GLBT Center) provides students of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions with resources and programming to raise awareness, promote respect, and create a culture of equity, inclusion and social justice. The LGBTQ Pride Center's stated mission is to engage, develop, and empower members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning communities and their allies. This is accomplished through lectures, counseling services, workshops, and developing supportive communities. Some of the recurring events the Center sponsors include the GLBT Symposium, Transgender Awareness Week, Alternative Spring Break - San Francisco, and the Lavender Graduation. Less

This collection is comprised of correspondence, surveys, and reports related to discrimination and African American issues. It also includes information on the African American Cultural Center. This office of African American Affairs worked in cooperation with the Affirmative Action Office. In 1990 North Carolina State University created a position of Coordinator of African American Affairs within the Office of the Provost. Dr. Augustus M. Witherspoon became the first to fill the position. Drs. William C. Grant, Rupert W. Nacoste, and Jose A. Picart have followed in his footsteps. By 2000 the position had become the Vice Provost for Diversity and African American Affairs. The Vice Provost for Diversity and African American Affairs had the primary responsibility of forging a shared vision concerning the recruitment, retention, and graduation of a diverse student body. Materials range in date from 1989 - 2020. The Office of Faculty Development (OFD) was established as part of the Office of the Provost in August 2008. Its goal is to provide NC State faculty with access to a range of development opportunities provided by OFD and a number of other NC State offices and programs. It was formed by the Working Group on Faculty Development and assumes many of the roles of the Faculty Center of Teaching and Learning. Less

Lawrence Apple, who successively wrote under the titles of administrative advisor, associate director of international agriculture, and finally director of international programs. There are also some more recent additions, not from Apple's files. In 1968 North Carolina State University had a dean of international programs reporting to the chancellor. By 1982, an Office of International Programs reported to the provost. By 2002 the university had created the position of vice provost for international affairs. This collection also contains Office of Civil Rights (OCR) investigations on racial and ethnic differences in admittee qualifications. Materials range in date from 1972 to 2017. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions provides prospective students whether transfers, international, or incoming freshmen with the information they need to guide them through the admissions process. The Office gives prospective and incoming students information on academic majors and minors, financial aid, and campus visits. Admissions evaluates applications for enrollment and hands down decisions according to established guidelines. Less
