These events include Heritage Day, the Pan-Afrikan Festival, and the Heritage Symposium. This collection also contains Advisory Committee minutes, correspondence, agendas, and publicity related to the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Cultural Festival. There are general records as well, which contain materials related to the building of the Cultural Center Annex, now the Witherspoon Student Center, and the African American Cultural Center's involvement in the planning. Materials range in date from 1984 to 2022. The African American Cultural Center promotes awareness of and appreciation for African American and other African descent experiences through activities and events that enhance academic excellence and strengthen cultural competence for the campus and surrounding communities. As a unit of the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity, the African American Cultural Center is an indispensable component of NC State University’s mission of “building a diverse and inclusive campus community, fostering demographic and intellectual diversity, fostering internal and external partnerships and adopting an operational model that embraces efficiency and accountability.” The Center also operates the African American Cultural Library and Cultural Art Gallery.

It also contains agendas, correspondence, member lists and minutes from the Merit Awards Committee dating from 1979 to 2001. In 1955, the position of Dean of Faculty was first established at North Carolina State College (University). In 1967, the title changed to Provost, and in 1971, to Provost and Vice Chancellor. The Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost is NC State's chief academic officer, supporting faculty and programming that make the university a higher education leader. As executive vice chancellor, the provost is the senior executive responsible for NC State’s day-to-day activities. The provost is responsible for the university’s 10 colleges and 12 critical corollary units. The Confucius Institute, based in the Office of Global Engagement on NC State's campus, offered Chinese language courses for NC State students, K-12 teachers, businesses, and community members. The Institute also supported cultural programs and outreach activities. Confucius Classrooms were based in four institutions: Central Carolina Community College, Enloe High School, Saint Augustine's University, and Concord High School. It was founded in 2007 in partnership with Nanjing Normal University, in Nanjing, China. The Confucius Institute closed in June of 2019.

MoreThis collection contains personnel files of faculty, graduate students, and other EPA (exempt from state personnel act) employees who "separated" (left employment) with the university before 1970. Included are some visiting lecturers for this time period. The files contain records of the full employment period of these employees, some of whom began employment with NC State in the 1930s and earlier. Documents most likely found in these files are personnel action forms, faculty information forms, and curriculum vitae (CVs). Files for English and Design faculty are also likely to contain correspondence. Also included in this collection are a few statistical reports on faculty salaries, degrees, and other topics. UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, EACH FOLDER MUST BE REVIEWED BY SPECIAL COLLECTIONS STAFF BEFORE ACCESS IS GRANTED. Redaction of some documents may occur before access is granted, and a few folders may be restricted in their entirety. Under the Provost, an EPA Personnel Office existed from at least 1992 to 1994. It had become Academic Personnel by September 1995 and Academic Personnel Services by August 1996. It probably discontinued in 2003 when functions were transferred to the campus-wide Human Resources unit.

MoreThe records of the Fort Bragg Program at North Carolina State University include brochures, budgets, correspondence, enrollment data, meeting minutes, reports, schedule of courses, and other documents concerning the courses offered by North Carolina State University at Fort Bragg. Materials range in date from 1963 to 1976. Beginning during World War II, North Carolina State College (later, University) began a program of coursework at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina. In 1964, approval was given for the university to operate a four-year branch at the military base. Responsibility for the program was shifted to Fayetteville State University by July 1, 1973. NC State University ran a short-lived graduate program there until 1982.

MoreThe North Carolina State University, Office of the Provost, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Center Records, 1978-2024, document a portion of the history of the LGBTQ community on NC State's campus as well as the creation and function of the LGBTQ Pride Center (formerly the GLBT Center). The collection contains flyers, reports, surveys, news clippings, workshop and training materials, zines, photographs, and posters. These materials and the digital files also included in the collection pertain to events such as LGBTQ History Month, Transgender Awareness Week, and Lavender Graduation, as well as workshops and trainings such as Transgender 101 and Project SAFE. There are also documents related to the 1980s LGBTQ student groups and organizations that were precursors to the LGBTQ Pride Center. Also included are artifacts including t-shirts, tablecloths, plaques, and sashes from Lavender Graduation. The digital files included in this collection cover organizations and clubs, events and event planning, and workshops and trainings given by the Center. The NC State LGBTQ Pride Center (formerly the GLBT Center) provides students of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions with resources and programming to raise awareness, promote respect, and create a culture of equity, inclusion and social justice. The LGBTQ Pride Center's stated mission is to engage, develop, and empower members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning communities and their allies.
This is accomplished through lectures, counseling services, workshops, and developing supportive communities. Some of the recurring events the Center sponsors include the GLBT Symposium, Transgender Awareness Week, Alternative Spring Break - San Francisco, and the Lavender Graduation.

MoreThe Office for Equal Opportunity and Equity Records contain correspondence, memoranda, meeting minutes, reports, publications, and other material related to the administrative functions of the Affirmative Action Office (later the Office for Equal Opportunity and Equity). The bulk of the material involves efforts by North Carolina State University to comply with federal statutory and regulatory requirements prohibiting discrimination. Also included are records of the Disability Services Office, which became part of the Office for Equal Opportunity in 1999. Most of the Disability Services material, comprising student records, is restricted, and will be deaccessioned according the disposition instructions for GU 323 (Services to Students with Disabilities) of the University of North Carolina (System) General Records Retention and Disposition Schedule. The Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Office oversaw all university activities related to compliance with federal and state laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, gender, and disability. In July of 2011, the office of Equal Opportunity, Equity, and Compliance became a unit under the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity. As of 2020, Equal Opportunity and Equity provides training, resources and assistance to address and end discrimination and harassment at NC State. Areas of focus include accommodations and accessibility, discrimination and harassment, Equal Employment Opportunity and affirmative action, pregnancy, and Title IX.

This office of African American Affairs worked in cooperation with the Affirmative Action Office. In 1990 North Carolina State University created a position of Coordinator of African American Affairs within the Office of the Provost. Dr. Augustus M. Witherspoon became the first to fill the position. Drs. William C. Grant, Rupert W. Nacoste, and Jose A. Picart have followed in his footsteps. By 2000 the position had become the Vice Provost for Diversity and African American Affairs. The Vice Provost for Diversity and African American Affairs had the primary responsibility of forging a shared vision concerning the recruitment, retention, and graduation of a diverse student body.

There are also some more recent additions, not from Apple's files. In 1968 North Carolina State University had a dean of international programs reporting to the chancellor. By 1982, an Office of International Programs reported to the provost. By 2002 the university had created the position of vice provost for international affairs. The Office of International Affairs is the university's hub for global engagement.

There are several folders on the review of North Carolina State University's colleges and academic degree programs. Other materials concern faculty and course evaluations. As of 2019, many of the duties of this office are now performed by the Division of Academic and Student Affairs. Before this office was subsumed into the Division of Academic Affairs in 2011, the position was titled Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. It had been previously titled Associate Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. During the 1970s and 1980s associate provosts assisted the provost in academic matters.

MoreThis collection contains correspondence, reports and other material about named professorships and teaching awards at North Carolina State University, 1959 - 1993. In mid-1986, with the advice of the Faculty Senate, the chancellor established the concept of "professors of distinction" as the broad descriptor of all kinds of distinctively-titled professorships, "including distinguished visiting scholars," and provided procedures for according such distinctions upon individuals. Those procedures provide that faculty committees, comprised in the majority by individuals holding such formal distinctions, be consulted in the process of searching for or naming particular individuals in such positions and that the final review and decision on such distinctions rested with the chancellor upon the advice of the provost, the vice chancellor for research, and the dean of the graduate school.
