The bulk of these papers document the corporate activities of the North Carolina Farm Bureau between 1936 and 1999. The North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation, North Carolina Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company, North Carolina Farm Bureau Service Company, and North Carolina Farm Bureau Marketing Association are all represented in the documents of this collection. Also, a substantial amount of material testifies to the activities of the North Carolina Farm Bureau Women's Committee. Formats include correspondence, corporate documents, publications, financial ledgers, legal documents and transcripts, scrapbooks, photographs, film reels, audio recordings, and miscellaneous artifacts. Organized in 1936 as a chapter of the American Farm Bureau, the North Carolina Farm Bureau was created to be a grassroots organization that would give farmers a unified voice on agricultural issues. Its Women's Committee was established in 1942. In 1953, the North Carolina Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company was established. Beginning in 1962, the North Carolina Farm Bureau pioneered creation of a group purchase program that was managed by the North Carolina Farm Bureau Service Company. The following year, the North Carolina Farm Bureau further expanded with the establishment of the North Carolina Farm Bureau Marketing Association. Because of the organization's involvement in legal and legislative matters, a Legal Foundation for the North Carolina Farm Bureau was created in 1983. In 1987, a Political Action Committee was also added. Educational programs of the Farm Bureau include the R. Flake Shaw Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Institute for Future Agricultural Leaders, and "Agriculture in the Classroom." Less

The North Carolina State Beekeepers Association Records, 1917-2021 (bulk 1950-2018), contains minutes, agendas, financial reports, correspondence, newsletters, publications, beekeepings manuals, curriculum materials, calendars, and archived web content. Other materials include photographs, videos, and presentation materials relating to beekeeping and honey production. Significant portions of the collection are from the personal and professional papers of John D. Foust, who was elected President of the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association in 2003. Materials range from 1917 to 2021, with the bulk of materials from 1950 to 2018. Formed in 1917, the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association (NCSBA) has grown into the largest state beekeeping association in the United States, with more than 70 of the state’s counties organized into local chapters within the organization. As of 2017, the NCSBA is a volunteer led organization with more than 4,000 active members, most of whom are hobbyist beekeepers. Members of the NCSBA promote the honey bee to the public at beekeeping schools, county fairs, festivals, and special events, including Bug Fest in Raleigh, Bee Friendly Day in Tarboro, and National Honey Bee Day in Goldsboro. Collection contains alumni recollections, photographs, and ephemeral materials documenting the student experience, World War II service, and other aspects of the lives of various alumni of North Carolina State University. The North Carolina State University Alumni/Student Collection was created by the Special Collections Research Center in 1996 to centralize future material relating to activities of University students. It was intended for this collection to have the value of a representative sample of these activities. Formerly known as the Faculty Council and the Advisory Committee of the General Faculty, the Faculty Senate provides advice to the Chancellor and, through the Chancellor, to the Board of Trustees. This collection contains a copy of a scrapbook kept by Hilbert A. Fisher (member of the Department of Mathematics) and files relating to William Norwood Hicks' (member of the Department of Philosophy and Religion) professional activities at NC State as well as information about the 50th reunion of the Class of 1922, of which he was a member. The North Carolina State University Faculty and Staff Collection was created in 1996 to centralize material relating to activities of University employees. The records include bulletins, brochures, graduate programs, course catalogs, and a CD. Also included are electronic issues of the Graduate School Catalog, 2003-2018. Graduate instruction began at North Carolina State University in 1893, with the first Master's degree conferred in 1894 doctoral degree in 1926. A Graduate School existed from 1923 to 1931, but it was eliminated with the consolidation of the public universities in North Carolina. It was re-established at NC State during the 1950s. Less

Further expansion and renovation occurred in the 1980s, culminating in 1990 with the opening of the second (or "south") bookstack tower. In 2013 the award-winning James B. Hunt Library opened on the university’s Centennial Campus. In 2016, NC State University Libraries won the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, bestowed by the Institute for Museum and Library Service. The medal was presented by First Lady Michelle Obama to Director Susan Nutter during a ceremony. Susan Nutter retired from the Libraries in 2017, after an esteemed 30 year tenure. Less

This subgroup contains a circulation log for the period 1897-1899, and a request notification postcard, circa 1936-1939. In the early years of North Carolina State College, the circulation of books was managed by the university librarian and a group of student assistants. In the 1930s, librarian William Porter Kellam organized the library into five departments: reference, ordering, cataloging, periodicals, and circulation, which would later become Access and Delivery Services. Robert W. Severance was the first circulation librarian, followed by Harlan Brown. In the 2010s, the department's name was changed to Access Services with a mission to develop and implement services that connect users with experts, collections, technology, and spaces. Less

This collection contains the records and working files of the North Carolina State University Libraries' Associate Director for Public Services, including correspondence, reports, statistics; primarily reference and interlibrary loan, but also records of the Circulation Department, 1910 to 1983. The North Carolina State University Libraries’ Associate Director for Public Services was primarily concerned with meeting the needs of the Libraries’ users including students, faculty, staff, and the outlying community. There was some overlap in terms of responsibilities and therefore records of the Public Services Council, Assistant Director for Reference Services, and the Assistant Director for General Services. Topics addressed by Public Services included photocopy services, interlibrary loan of materials, reference services, usability of library collection guides, and serials cataloging. These records contain files pertaining to the activities and administration of the North Carolina State University Burlington Textiles Library including correspondence and reference files kept by the library, clippings, brochures, and other information about topics related to the College of Textiles. They also include slide sets, a portrait of Wallace W. Riddick, Jr., the Dedication Plaque for the Burlington Textiles Library, the Quick Response Collection, Textile World Charts, and panels from past exhibits. Materials range in date from 1911 to 2010. From 1988 to 2013, the Burlington Textiles Library was located in room 4411 of the College of Textiles complex on the Centennial Campus at North Carolina State University. The Library provided services to the faculty and staff, students, and NC State Centennial Campus community and university affiliates. The Library supported the curriculum and research programs in textile chemistry, textile materials and management, and fiber and polymer science. The North Carolina State University Libraries, Collection Management Department Records contain bound and unbound lists of titles and binders of statistics on library holdings. The Collection Management Department built and managed the NC State University Libraries' collections in support of campus research and instructional needs. Among the department's responsibilities were selecting books, journals, electronic resources, and media; developing collection policies; and reporting collections data for reviews and accreditation. The North Carolina State University Libraries, William Rand Kenan, Jr. Veterinary Medicine Library Records consist of four framed photographs of William R. Kenan, Jr. and his home, informational brochures, articles, born digital materials, photographs of the library dedication, and documents regarding gifts to the library. The Veterinary Medicine Library opened in 1981 with the first graduating class from the School (now College) of Veterinary Medicine. It supports the research and curriculum at the College of Veterinary Medicine and the study of life sciences, veterinary medicine, and animal and human health at NC State University. In 2006 it was renamed the William Rand Kenan, Jr. Library of Veterinary Medicine. Kenan (1872-1965) was a North Carolina native who contributed to progress in a variety of fields, including education, engineering, agriculture, finance, business and science. Less

The North Carolina State University, Air Quality Resources Library collection contains article reprints, manuscripts, theses and dissertations, and books about the impact of human-generated atmospheric gases on the climate as well as on local and global ecosystems. Each item has been assigned an identification number. Carton 96 contains a CD-ROM with a list of all the titles to the collection. Materials range in date from 1930 to 1980.
