NC State University Institutional Review Board (IRB)

In addition to providing a number of workshops and training opportunities (many optional, but some required), the NC State IRB provides guidance to help you plan for managing and securing data related to human subjects and biospecimens. Even if you are not completing IRB regulated research, the IRB's Data Access and Security Plan form is an excellent resource to help you think through strategies and protocols for secure data handling as you implement your Data Management and Sharing Plan and conduct your research.

When submitting your application, the IRB will determine the level of sensitivity of your human subjects data and where it falls within the NC State Data Management Framework. Additionally, the IRB provides guidance regarding federal and international regulations, and can help you understand the compliance requirements for your research.
