Students Protest Capitol March, 2004

On February, 27, 2004, members of the National Socialist Movement, Klu Klux Klan, and Nazi party marched to the Capitol Building in Raleigh, North Carolina, to celebrate George Washington's birthday. A group of students and local citizens gathered to protest the march and denounce racism and the National Socialist Movement.

Racist Graffiti, 2008

In November 2008, the morning after Barack Obama became the first Black president of the United States, racist graffiti threatening violence against Obama was discovered in the Free Expression Tunnel. The incident received international media attention, and the Secret Service was called to investigate. Students held a "Unity Rally" the same day, immediately acting to organize a demonstration of solidarity to denounce racism and hate speech.
