Library Catalog Search Strategies

The NC State University Libraries Catalog provides a search interface to the collections of books, microforms, media, and many electronic resources at the NC State University Libraries.

Tip for finding primary sources:
1. Start your search by entering key words (for example, african americans civil rights)
2. Then, to the left of your results, you can narrow your search by Subject: Genre. Look for the word Primary Sources , which indicate that the book includes primary materials.

Useful L.C. Subject Headings relating to Civil Rights:
When materials are entered into the library catalog, they are tagged with subject headings that describe the topic covered. It it often helpful to be aware of the standard subject headings relating to your topic, and to incorporate these words into your searches.
