This collection contains blueprints, drawings, notes, sketches, memoranda, surveys, master plans, and photographic slides, prints, and negatives relating to projects and initiatives undertaken by the Office of Campus Planning and Strategic Investment (formerly the Office of the University Architect). The majority of materials correspond to Edwin F. Harris’s tenure as Campus Planning Consultant, beginning in 1966, and later as director of Facilities Planning Division, a title which eventually became University Architect. However, the collection includes materials that pre-date Harris, as well as more recent additions to the collection. The University Archives contains architectural plans, drawings, and other materials for university buildings; however, federal and state law restricts access to certain types of documents in these categories. The Special Collections Research Center of the NC State University Libraries will handle access requests for those materials on a case-by-case basis, with the intention of providing as much access as possible to researchers. To support the university’s mission and goals, the Office of Campus Planning and Strategic Investment leads campus master planning, capital planning, space planning, campus design, and facilities data management efforts, which include the building floor plans, campus maps, GIS, and plan library. Collection contains memoranda, advertisements, brochures and promotional materials regarding sales, events, etc. from 1944 through 1996. Also includes series of calendars 1964-1991. The NC State University Bookstores is the official bookstore serving North Carolina State University. The bookstore operates for the convenience of the NC State University Students, Faculty, Administration, Staff and campus visitors. The North Carolina State University Office of Public Affairs (now known as University Communications and Marketing) operates to help the University "accomplish its mission by building sound relationships with the university's constituencies and public groups." Public Affairs consisted of three main divisions: Communication Services, News Services, and Web Communications. Until 1994 the office was known as University Relations. Materials range in date from 1889 to 2014, though the majority of the recordings are dated between 1978 and 2008. The collection contains files of the Agricultural Foundation, the Architectural Foundation, the College Foundation, the Dairy Foundation, the Design Foundation, the Engineering Foundation, the Forestry Foundation, the Pulp and Paper Foundation, the Textile Foundation, and the Education and Psychology Foundation, among others. The Park Scholarships were established at North Carolina State University in 1996 with a grant from the Park Foundation of Ithaca, N.Y., to fund an inaugural class of 25 scholars. The Park Scholarships program was named for Roy H. Park, NC State University class of 1931. The Program was established to provide a superb educational opportunity for exceptionally talented and well-prepared young men and women who merit the intellectual challenge of a distinguished faculty and a superior university. Materials range in date from 1957 to 2020. The Division of Undergraduate Academic Programs at North Carolina State University offered programs that enhanced intellectual and personal development and provided students with academic and career assistance. The division also helped colleges, departments, and faculty with their curriculum and policy development. Several existing programs overseeing undergraduate academics were brought together in 1991, forming a new Division of Undergraduate Studies - which was overseen by a dean. Beginning in 1997, the Division was led by a vice provost, and in 2001, the name of the Division was changed to the Division of Undergraduate Affairs. The name of Division of Undergraduate Academic Programs was implemented in 2006. In 2012, the Division of Undergraduate Academic Programs merged with the Division of Student Affairs to become the Division of Academic and Student Affairs (DASA). Less

This collection is comprised of correspondence, surveys, and reports related to discrimination and African American issues. It also includes information on the African American Cultural Center. This office of African American Affairs worked in cooperation with the Affirmative Action Office. In 1990 North Carolina State University created a position of Coordinator of African American Affairs within the Office of the Provost. Dr. Augustus M. Witherspoon became the first to fill the position. Drs. William C. Grant, Rupert W. Nacoste, and Jose A. Picart have followed in his footsteps. By 2000 the position had become the Vice Provost for Diversity and African American Affairs. The Vice Provost for Diversity and African American Affairs had the primary responsibility of forging a shared vision concerning the recruitment, retention, and graduation of a diverse student body. The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration at North Carolina State University was formerly known as Bursar, Treasurer, Controller, and Business Manager. The mission statement of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration is "By stewarding financial assets, optimizing physical resources and investing in human capital, we will work with university constituencies to position NC State as a premier land grant university and world-class institution." As of 2020, the Office consists of the following units: Budget and Resource Management, Campus Enterprises, Environmental Health and Public Safety,Facilities, Finance, Human Resources, and Real Estate and Development. These units report to the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Business, and they provide infrastructure services essential to supporting the students, faculty and staff of the university. It also includes the official website of the Engineers' Council, beginning in 2020. Materials range in date from 1926 to 2020. The purpose of the Engineers' Council was to provide a unified student voice within the School of Engineering, while also promoting the study and practice of the various disciplines in engineering. While the records of the Engineers' Council do not indicate gaps in the Councils' activity, the Council may have disbanded at some point and reformed in 1987, according to their website in 2008. The records of the North Carolina State University Chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi contain information on NC State's chapter, as well as information produced or distributed by the national office of Phi Kappa Phi. NC State's chapter records contain their constitution and bylaws, correspondence, meeting minutes, membership lists, financial information, information on officers, awards, activities, chapter history, and other general records of the chapter. The records from the National Office of Phi Kappa Phi are comprised mostly of publications, and also include official handbooks, constitution and bylaws, brochures, and other literature produced by the national office for distribution to all chapters; as well as some materials on conference gatherings, the history of Phi Kappa Phi, and NC State emeritus professor Wendell H. McKenzie's tenure as national president. The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 at the University of Maine to act as an honorary society recognizing academic excellence across all disciplines. A chapter of Phi Kappa Phi was established at North Carolina State College (University) in 1923, largely under the direction of W. A. Withers, head of the Department of Chemistry. NC State's chapter was the 33rd to be established. Less

The records of Company L-4 (North Carolina State University's company) of the Pershing Rifles contain their constitution and bylaws; meeting minutes; financial records; files on their events, competitions, and other activities; correspondence; and publications, including newsletters published by Company L-4, as well as publications collected from the company's overseeing regiment and the national office of the Pershing Rifles. Materials range in date from 1953 to 1977. The Pershing Rifles were established by General John Joseph Pershing at the University of Nebraska in 1891 to act as an honorary organization for members of the ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps) program. The L-4 Company of the Pershing Rifles was established at NC State on February 7, 1953, and participates in ceremonies such as the Color Guard and the Pennant Guard for university and athletic events. The L-4 Company is believed to remain active as of 2008. Less

The records of the North Carolina State University chapter of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society, document the formation and evolution of the chapter. These records, containing materials from 1932 to 2015, include correspondence, meeting notes, administrative files, and other documents that detail the club's activities, including meetings, scientific lectures, research awards, administrative activities, and participation in activities of the national organization. The Sigma Xi Club was formed at North Carolina State College in 1938 and successfully petitioned to obtain Chapter status in the national Society of the Sigma Xi in 1944. The Society is dedicated to promoting and recognizing research achievements in a wide variety of scientific fields. The Chapter's activities include meetings, scientific lectures, research awards, administrative activities, and participation in activities of the national organization. Less

Character and professional development organizations, social and service fraternities and sororities, honorary societies, religious, ethnic, and international clubs, arts, media, and social action organizations, governing and representative councils, and special interest organizations are all represented. North Carolina State University is a public, land-grant, research university that is part of the University of North Carolina System. Founded in 1887, it was at first known as the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. In 1917, its name changed to the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering. Since 1962, it has been known as North Carolina State University. Students began forming organizations early in the history of North Carolina State University to enrich their college experiences.
