The collection includes the records of six Chancellor installations, from 1960 to 2010. The Chancellor Installation Committee plans the installation ceremony of the Chancellor of North Carolina State University. The committee coordinates installation event details, guest invitation, publicity, and other related events (symposiums, conferences, etc.). The Chancellor is the chief administrative and executive officer, leader and spokesperson of North Carolina State University and reports to the President of the University of North Carolina General Administration and the Board of Governors, whose members are appointed by the North Carolina legislature. The Chancellor defines the scope and authority of faculties, councils, committees, and officers of North Carolina State University, is a member of all faculties and other academic bodies of the university, and has the right to preside over the deliberations of the legislative bodies of the faculties of the institution. The Office of the Chancellor retains authority in faculty and EPA personnel, student matters, contracts, leases, and other agreements, and the acquisition and disposition of property.

Examples of materials contained in this collection include agendas, minutes, annual reports, portfolio examples and materials that specifically relate to accounting and poultry science. Materials range in dates from 2003 to 2005. The North Carolina State University Committee on Undergraduate Program Review (CUPR) was created by the Vice Provost in 2000 and charged with focusing on a myriad of activities and processes related to undergraduate academic program development, review, evaluation and improvement. With primary faculty oversight, the mission of the CUPR was to schedule and manage the submission of portfolios submitted as part of the undergraduate program review process; identify needed forms of support for the process including administrative, educational, technological, and financial support; and advise the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs on all issues related to the program review process. This Committee still appears to be active as of 2012.

MoreThe records of the Council on Athletics at North Carolina State University contain meeting minutes, announcements, notes, agendas, and other information from meetings of the Council and affiliated groups, including the Faculty Athletics Committee and the Athletics Department, as well as general correspondence, annual reports, and administrative, financial, and regulatory information regarding athletics practices at North Carolina State University, as overseen by the Council. Also included in this collection are meeting minutes, announcements, notes, agendas, and other information from meetings of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), of which NC State has been a member since the founding of the conference in 1953; and from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), of which NC State is also a member. General correspondence, annual reports, and administrative, financial, and regulatory information regarding athletics practices of the ACC and the NCAA are included in this collection. Materials range in date from 1923 to 2009. The Athletic Council was established at North Carolina State College (later, University) in or before 1923 to oversee all athletic activities at the college, including activities in the college's Physical Education Department as well as intercollegiate activities with other colleges. The Athletic Council held administrative control over all athletic activities at NC State until the first Athletics Director was hired in 1948. Since then, the Athletic Council has worked in consultation with the Athletics Director to oversee athletic activities at NC State. The Council on Athletics continues to maintain responsibility for representing NC State at meetings of both the Atlantic Coast Conference (of which NC State has been a member since the conference's founding in 1953) and the NCAA.

Materials range in dates from 1987 to 2001. The North Carolina State University Commission on Undergraduate Education was established on November 20, 1985 under the leadership of Provost Nash Winstead. The Commission members were faculty and staff members of North Carolina State University. The Commission on Undergraduate Education was later renamed the Council on Undergraduate Education. The committee's responsibilities were to identify competencies and common understanding and knowledge that were required in all undergraduate degree programs. They were also required to inventory various means of satisfying outcomes and to recommend procedures for the University Courses and Curricula Committee to evaluate. The Council on Undergraduate Education remains active as of 2012.

The North Carolina State University, Enrollment Planning Committee reviews enrollment projections submitted by individual campus colleges and compares them with established enrollment trends and goals. The Committee maintains a university-wide enrollment plan, including recommendations for total size, undergraduate versus graduate students, transfer students, and diversity of the student body. Based on this plan, enrollment projections are submitted to the Board of Governors.

MoreThe Harrelson Fund Committee Records contains minutes, correspondence, financial information, and annual reports documenting the activities of the Harrelson Fund Committee. There are also a large amount of documents related to the Harrelson Lectures, many of which document the planning and scheduling of lectures. Also included are texts of many of the lectures and faculty nominations for lecturers as well as promotional material such as flyers, posters, and brochures. The Harrelson Fund Committee was established at North Carolina State College in 1961 to manage the funds of former Chancellor John W. Harrelson's endowment. Since the Committee's founding, they have aspired to use the funds in accordance with the priorities established in Harrelson's will: "lectures (first claim); books; works of art; appropriate markers for buildings named for persons." Accordingly, one of the most important functions of the Harrelson Committee has been to organize the annual Harrelson Lectures, where a well-known public or academic figure gives a series of talks at NC State University. During the 2018-2019 academic year, the Harrelson Fund Committee transitioned into the University Standing Committee on Speakers and Lectures.

Materials range in date from 1951 to 2010. The Committee on the History of the College was established in or before 1951 at North Carolina State College to coordinate the naming and dedication of campus buildings and roads, and to collect documentation on the history of the college. In 1972, the committee's name was changed to the Committtee on Commemoration, Institutional History, and Naming of Buildings; was changed again in 1977 to the Committee on Institutional History and Commemoration; and was changed sometime in the 1980s to the Institutional History and Commemoration Committee. This committee was formally dissolved in 2009.

Learning in a Technology-Rich Environment (LITRE) was developed as part of the accreditation of North Carolina State University by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The quality enhancement plan was aimed at enhancing learning with technology opportunities available to students and faculty. Research groups were comprised of faculty, staff, and students and focused on educational infrastructure, student information fluency, faculty engagement, learning resources and educational technology applications, and e-learning environments. As a result of research, a forum, and surveys, five ares were targeted for implementation: expanding the classroom technology improvement plan, implementing and testing the new standard for technology in a limited number of classrooms, deploying a new classroom-based technology learning system, establishing pilot technology-enhanced workspaces, and initiating a faculty-support grants program. The plan was developed throughout 2002 and 2003, with a final report submitted in February 2004.

The North Carolina State University Marine Sciences Council was established in 1995 to advise the Provost and Chancellor on affairs affecting marine science research, outreach, and teaching. The Council consisted of faculty from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, the College of Engineering, and the College of Veterinary Medicine. Because faculty were split between colleges, the Council provided a central focal point for marine sciences concerns. The Council played a prominent role in assessing and evaluating the Center for Marine Sciences and Technology (CMAST) based in Carteret County.

Max Gardner Award was established in 1949 to recognize the faculty member from among all University of North Carolina (UNC) system schools who has "...made the greatest contribution to the human race." Nominations for faculty representatives are collected at each university during the fall of the academic year, and one to three candidates are selected from among those nominees to represent each university. From this pool, one or two faculty members are chosen in the spring of the academic year by the UNC Board of Governors' Committee as the recipient(s) of the O. Max Gardner Award for that academic year.At North Carolina State University, the O. Max Gardner Award nominees are selected by a committee reporting to the Provost's Office.

MoreThe records of the Physical Environment Committee at North Carolina State University contain meeting minutes, correspondence, memoranda, annual reports and other reports, committee membership rosters, and other information regarding the activities of the committee in their duties to monitor the physical environment of the campus. Materials range in date from 1932 to 2010. The Buildings and Grounds Committee was established at North Carolina State College in or before 1932 to consider matters related to the aesthetic appearance of the campus. In the committee's early years, this meant primarily considering issues of landscaping and other campus beautification, as well as adornment (and other decorative considerations) for the buildings on campus. In 1970, the Buildings and Grounds Committee was accused of becoming lax in these responsibilities, and was reorganized as the Campus Planning and Environment Committee, with duties to include a more wholistic responsibility for directing all matters related to the physical environment of the campus at North Carolina State University. In 1986, the committee was renamed the Physical Environment Committee. This committee existed until the 2016-2017 academic year, when it was dissolved.

Issues confronted by the Research Committee range from policy creation and funding problems to the creation of web pages, depending on the various time periods. The University Research Committee's records range in date from 1943 to 2004. The North Carolina State University (previously College) Research Committee provides oversight in the administration of research proposals and funding resources for members of the faculty. While committee responsibilities have changed and evolved throughout the years, the management of proposal development (including budget development and agency guidelines) have maintained. The Research Committee has been concerned with the review and development of institutional policy for research, with assistance in obtaining financial support for research and research facilities. It contains the records of the North Carolina State University Safety Committee (also known as the Committee on Safety and Health), including: meeting minutes, monthly reports, records of calls to the Safety Hotline, and information on radiation and laboratory safety. The North Carolina State University Safety Committee (also referred to as the Committee on Health and Safety) appears to have existed as early as 1961. The purpose of the committee was to ensure that adequate safety measures were utilized at North Carolina State University, particularly fire safety, radiation safety, and lab safety. Though all safety concerns were relevant to the committee, these receive particular attention in the files. Safety measures and education at North Carolina State University are now handled by the North Carolina State University Environmental Health and Safety Center. Currently, the center manages the Safety Hotline, publishes the AWARE newsletter, and manages health and safety concerns from general health concerns, to information regarding radiation safety and environmental affairs. Recent information regarding the Safety Center's undertakings and the records of the Safety Hotline are available online.
