The North Carolina Forestry Foundation Hofmann Forest Oral Histories contain interview transcripts and some biographical information about each interviewee. Recordings of the interviews are not a part of the collection. The interviews were conducted between 2006 and 2008. The North Carolina Forestry Foundation (now called the NC State Natural Resources Foundation) is the oldest foundation at NC State University. The Foundation is governed by a 20-member Board of Directors, which oversees more than $150 million in assets. The foundation strives to meet all the needs of the college, particularly external support, including: scholarships, fellowships and professorships; operating funds for programs; advisory and advocacy groups for academic and research programs; fund raising capability; management of land holdings; and stewardship of donor gifts and funding support for Natural Resources Advancement (https://cnr.ncsu.edu/giving/foundation/, accessed 05/12/2021). Collection consists of organizational records and reference material of the North Carolina Greenways Advisory Panel (GAP). The bulk of the collection consists of GAP meeting minutes and agendas, drafts of surveys and recommendations, and legal documents. The North Carolina Greenways Advisory Panel was commissioned by Secretary William W. Cobey, Jr. in January 1991 at the request of Governor James G. Martin in response to the resolution passed by the Third Annual Greenways Conference in 1990. The panel was charged with investigating ways to coordinate and promote greenway development throughout North Carolina. Secretary Cobey appointed a panel of individuals with wide-ranging experience in greenway development, as well as a team of technical advisors representing state agencies whose activities impact greenway development. The North Carolina Psychological Association was founded in 1948 as an affiliate of the American Psychological Association. This collection consists of organizational records, reference material, and archived web content that North Carolina Rail-Trails (NCRT) both created and used to facilitate the operation of the organization. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence, NCRT meeting minutes and agendas, brochures, flyers, several newsletters, including "Little Toot," newspaper and magazine articles, essays for "Little Toot" by Anthony Reevy, past historian and vice chair of NCRT, work plans, reports, studies, proposals, maps, essays on North Carolina rail-trails and railways, legal documents including financial statements and property deeds, organizational development and strategic planning records and copies of ratified senate and house bills. North Carolina Rail-Trails (NCRT), a volunteer organization supported by dues, gifts, and grants, began as a steering committee at the North Carolina Greenways Conference in Charlotte on June 3, 1988. North Carolina Rail-Trails, headquartered in Durham, became incorporated on March 12, 1990. NCRT is a charter member of the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits and the Environmental Federation of North Carolina, a Durham-based organization that endeavors to both protect and preserve the state's natural resources. The North Carolina Research Campus Papers, 2006-2010, contain master plans, architectural drawings, DVDs, CDs, published research, newspaper articles, magazines, archived web content, and flash drives related to the founding, construction, and activities of the North Carolina Research Campus. The materials are primarily concerned with the built environment of the campus as well as the events and research that occur there. The collection spans the full breadth of operations at the NCRC, and as such contain items related to many of the universities and corporations that maintain facilities on the campus. The materials range in date from 2006 to 2020. In December 2004, David Murdock purchased the former Cannon Mills Plant One at auction and in 2005, in partnership with the University of North Carolina system, announced plans for the North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC), a 1.5 billion dollar scientific and economic revitalization project. This private-public venture serves to foster collaboration and further knowledge in biotechnology, nutrition, agriculture, and health. Since its groundbreaking in 2006, the NCRC has expanded to include universities, business partners, over 130 employees, and five buildings. Cannon Mills, located in Kannapolis, North Carolina, was at one time the largest manufacturer of sheets and towels in the world. Founded in 1906, the mills went through several ownership changes before being acquired by the Pillowtex Corporation in 1997. In 2003, Pillowtex Corporation closed its doors, laying off 4,340 people living in the Kannapolis area. Less

The North Carolina Sociological Association Records contain correspondence; memoranda; programs of annual meetings; minutes of executive council, business, directories, and committee meetings; financial statements; newsletters; photographs; and related material, 1969-2010. Included are biographical information on Joseph S. Himes, an African-American professor of sociology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro who was a founder and first president of the NCSA, and files of David J. Pratto, Leslie W. Syron, and Robert L. Moxley, three sociologists who served as president of the association. The North Carolina Sociological Association was founded in 1970 to promote the welfare and advancement of the profession in the state. Less

The North Carolina State Beekeepers Association Records, 1917-2021 (bulk 1950-2018), contains minutes, agendas, financial reports, correspondence, newsletters, publications, beekeepings manuals, curriculum materials, calendars, and archived web content. Other materials include photographs, videos, and presentation materials relating to beekeeping and honey production. Significant portions of the collection are from the personal and professional papers of John D. Foust, who was elected President of the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association in 2003. Materials range from 1917 to 2021, with the bulk of materials from 1950 to 2018. Formed in 1917, the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association (NCSBA) has grown into the largest state beekeeping association in the United States, with more than 70 of the state’s counties organized into local chapters within the organization. As of 2017, the NCSBA is a volunteer led organization with more than 4,000 active members, most of whom are hobbyist beekeepers. Members of the NCSBA promote the honey bee to the public at beekeeping schools, county fairs, festivals, and special events, including Bug Fest in Raleigh, Bee Friendly Day in Tarboro, and National Honey Bee Day in Goldsboro. Certificate noting the satisfactory completion of a course in Radio Communications held by the North Carolina State College (later University) Engineering Science and Management War Training Program by Orla Finger Asbury, III in 1942. The certificate is signed by the Dean of Administration, the Dean of Engineering, and the Director of the program. The Engineering, Science, and Management War Training program (ESMWT) was a United States government-sponsored program which provided training classes for Americans so that they could fill urgently needed technical and scientific civilian positions during World War II. The program ran from October 1940 until June 1945 on college campuses around the country. The North Carolina State University’s Reserve Officer’s Training Corp (ROTC) is a group of four campus programs, the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps, which trains officers of the United State armed forces in basic military and officer training. There has been military training at the university since 1894, and the ROTC program has existed since 1917. Less

This advisor's handbook, edited by Frederick Gail Warren and Victor Arthur Rice, for the North Carolina State College School of Agriculture contains 48 typed pages of information about topics such as attendance regulations, financial aid, honor societies, remedial services, and study hints. Corrections and notes have been made on the document in pen. Some forms, such as a Summons of the Student Judicial Board of Student Government, as well as a pamphlet about the honor system are included. Frederick Gail Warren (1915 - 1998) came to North Carolina State University in 1949 as an associate professor of Animal Industry. He was a member of the Food Science Department from 1961 until 1980. Victor Arthur Rice (1890 - 1964) earned his bachelor's degree from North Carolina State in 1917, and received an honorary Doctor of Agriculture degree from the school in 1946. He returned to N.C. State in 1955 as the director of instruction in the School of Agriculture, where he directed the resident teaching program. Less

Collection contains alumni recollections, photographs, and ephemeral materials documenting the student experience, World War II service, and other aspects of the lives of various alumni of North Carolina State University. The North Carolina State University Alumni/Student Collection was created by the Special Collections Research Center in 1996 to centralize future material relating to activities of University students. It was intended for this collection to have the value of a representative sample of these activities. In addition, it was designed to focus on future acquisitions, so no attempt was made to reorganize similar existing collections into the NC State University Alumni and Student Collection. Less

This collection contains digital audio and video recordings of interviews conducted with former NC State students from the Class of 1962. Interviews were conducted by Jonathan Holloway and Samantha Rich, both from the staff of the NC State University Libraries. This is an artificial collection maintained by the NC State University Libraries' Special Collections Research Center. These oral histories were conducted on 30 March 2012 with some of the members of the NC State Class of 1962 who attended the Reunion Weekend. Interviews were conducted by NC State University Libraries staff. Clyda Weeks Lutz was first interviewed as a member of the Class of 1962 and then later re-interviewed for the Student Leadership Initiative, a project that chronicles the experiences and impact of former NC State student leaders. In the 1960's, North Carolina State University's School of Engineering created a new undergraduate degree-granting program, "Engineering Operations", designed to train engineers to solve industrial problems. A much more practical course than many of its counterparts, Engineering Operations was initially intended to be only a Bachelor of Science program. Less

These records have not yet been processed. Formerly known as the Faculty Council and the Advisory Committee of the General Faculty, the Faculty Senate provides advice to the Chancellor and, through the Chancellor, to the Board of Trustees. In this role, the Faculty Senate discusses with or provides information to any administrator with authority and responsibility for a decision, recommends policies to any administrator who is authorized to make a decision, and makes policy recommendations to the Chancellor, Provost and Vice Chancellors. This collection contains a copy of a scrapbook kept by Hilbert A. Fisher (member of the Department of Mathematics) and files relating to William Norwood Hicks' (member of the Department of Philosophy and Religion) professional activities at NC State as well as information about the 50th reunion of the Class of 1922, of which he was a member. The North Carolina State University Faculty and Staff Collection was created in 1996 to centralize material relating to activities of University employees. The North Carolina State University Genetics Department Film Collection, 1960s-2000s, includes five 16mm films. They range in length from 15 to 30 minutes long. Two are labeled as being in color and it is likely that the other three are in color as well. The film, "Yeast" included in this collection may be in Japanese. The films are educational and all relate to biological genetics. No formally organized genetics department existed at North Carolina State University until 1951. Until that time, the subject of genetics was distributed to several long-established departments within the School of Agriculture. By the 1930s, departments such as Agronomy, Zoology, and Plant Pathology (among others) were beginning to take an interest in genetics and the possible ways in which it could be integrated into their coursework and research projects. In 1951, the University decided to create a department devoted entirely to genetics for graduate degrees and more basic research. In 2013, the programs of the Department of Genetics were subsumed under the new Department of Biological Sciences in the new College of Sciences. Less
