Contained here are reports, correspondence, charts, brochures, and other documents from the College of Management. This collection is arranged into two series, General Records and Business Management Review Committee. The Business Management Review Committee series contains materials regarding the founding of the College of Management. The General Records Series contains all other records. The College of Management at North Carolina State University was created in 1992, but the history of economics, business, and management education at the university goes back to the early 1900s. In December 2010 the college received a naming gift which resulted in it being called the Lonnie C. Poole, Jr. College of Management. Less

The North Carolina State University, Research Operations Council Records contain minutes, reports, memoranda, and correspondence regarding research and its funding. Materials range in date from 1970 to 1994. The Research Operations Council (ROC) provides leadership at the college and university level for NC State research endeavors. The council’s monthly meeting agenda is set by the Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation. Members include the associate dean for research (or comparable chief research officer) from each college, the Vice Chancellor’s senior staff and the University Research Committee’s chair (https://research.ncsu.edu/about/committees/research-operations-council/, accessed 7/30/2020). Most documents date from 1995-1998, although some (newletters and meeting minutes) contain more recent information. Also included are born-digital materials related to the Staff Senate's old website. The Staff Senate is an advisory body to the North Carolina State University Chancellor. It first met on August 2, 1995, and it first adopted its bylaws on September 6 of that year. Less

This collection contains several scrapbooks, dated 1991-2019, that are titled "Memories," "Sister Pages," and "Candidate Classes." It also contains photo composites of the members from 1991 to 2014. Alpha Omega Epsilon is a professional sorority for women interested in engineering and technical sciences. The records of the North Carolina State University Association of Retired Faculty (ARF) contain membership rosters, meeting minutes, information about activities, a statement on budget reductions, newsletters, financial records, correspondence, and a DVD of a speech on the development of Centennial Campus. The Association of Retired Faculty consists of retired faculty and EPA professional staff from NC State University. The ARF was founded in 1983 to offer retirees a continuing link with the University, as well as to provide opportunities for social gatherings, stimulation of the mind, and service to NC State. Less

The Chaplains' Cooperative Ministry Records, 1956-2016, document the organization's decades on North Carolina State University's campus. A significant portion of the papers are meeting minutes, but brochures, correspondence, administrative files, documentation from events, photographs, and news clippings are also included. The records of the North Carolina State University Engineers' Council contain administrative records (including meeting minutes, officer and committee files, financial records, their constitution, membership information, and other general records), records from events and activities the Council hosted, files from their involvement with the Order of St. Patrick engineering honorary society, production and publications files (including photographic files) for their publication, the NC State Engineer (and its predecessor, the Southern Engineer), and other general information about the Council, its members, and its activities. It also includes the official website of the Engineers' Council, beginning in 2020. Materials range in date from 1926 to 2020. The purpose of the Engineers' Council was to provide a unified student voice within the School of Engineering, while also promoting the study and practice of the various disciplines in engineering. While the records of the Engineers' Council do not indicate gaps in the Councils' activity, the Council may have disbanded at some point and reformed in 1987, according to their website in 2008. The records of the North Carolina State University Chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi contain information on NC State's chapter, as well as information produced or distributed by the national office of Phi Kappa Phi. NC State's chapter records contain their constitution and bylaws, correspondence, meeting minutes, membership lists, financial information, information on officers, awards, activities, chapter history, and other general records of the chapter. The records from the National Office of Phi Kappa Phi are comprised mostly of publications, and also include official handbooks, constitution and bylaws, brochures, and other literature produced by the national office for distribution to all chapters; as well as some materials on conference gatherings, the history of Phi Kappa Phi, and NC State emeritus professor Wendell H. McKenzie's tenure as national president. The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 at the University of Maine to act as an honorary society recognizing academic excellence across all disciplines. A chapter of Phi Kappa Phi was established at North Carolina State College (University) in 1923, largely under the direction of W. A. Withers, head of the Department of Chemistry. The North Carolina State University, Student and Other Organizations, Inter-Residence Council Records contain memos, publications, meeting minutes, flyers, a photocollage, and the organization's constitution. The records also include the official website of the Inter-Residence Council beginning in 2019 and captured quarterly starting in 2020. Topics include fundraisers and other events as well as dormitory policies. Paper materials range in date from 1955 to 1992. The North Carolina State University, Inter-Residence Council is comprised of students who advocate and provide a voice for the many residents of NC State University. The Council is committed to advocating on behalf of residential communities to provide leadership development opportunities to all. It was formerly known as the Inter-Dormitory Council. Less

The records of Company L-4 (North Carolina State University's company) of the Pershing Rifles contain their constitution and bylaws; meeting minutes; financial records; files on their events, competitions, and other activities; correspondence; and publications, including newsletters published by Company L-4, as well as publications collected from the company's overseeing regiment and the national office of the Pershing Rifles. Materials range in date from 1953 to 1977. The Pershing Rifles were established by General John Joseph Pershing at the University of Nebraska in 1891 to act as an honorary organization for members of the ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps) program. The L-4 Company of the Pershing Rifles was established at NC State on February 7, 1953, and participates in ceremonies such as the Color Guard and the Pennant Guard for university and athletic events. The Zeta of North Carolina Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa records include chapter applications, application committee business, and correspondence relating to attempts to establish a chapter of the society at North Carolina State University, as well as materials related to the creation of the chapter and induction of the original undergraduate members in 1995 and subsequent years. The collection also includes materials from two Triennial Council meetings and some photographs of the organization's officers and ceremonies. The Zeta of North Carolina Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa was founded at North Carolina State University on April 17, 1995 reflecting a tremendous achievement for the University. The organization encourages acquisition of knowledge and the cultivation of understanding, support for intellectual honesty and tolerance, and the development of intellectual interests. Less

The North Carolina State University, Student and Other Organizations, Phi Zeta Honor Society, Psi Chapter Records contain brochures, histories, a membership list, and an induction ceremony program with accompanying powerpoint file. Materials range in date from 1984 to 2017. The Honor Society of Phi Zeta began at Cornell University in 1925, with the first meeting occurring in 1929 in Detroit, Michigan. Soon after, several other chapters formed. The name derives from the Latin "Philozoi," meaning "love for animals." The object of the Society, as laid out in the Constitution, is "to recognize and promote scholarship and research in matters pertaining to the welfare and disease of animals." Meetings are held annually in conjunction with the AVMA Convention and two research awards are sponsored per year to help fund lectures at different chapters. Membership is open to veterinary professionals as well as students.North Carolina State University chartered the Psi Chapter in 1984. Less

The records of the North Carolina State University Rugby Football Club include correspondence, schedules, game records, financial records, and other club business. The records also include archived web content of the Rugby Club's official website, captured quarterly beginning in September 2020. The North Carolina State University Rugby Football Club was organized in 1965. The records for the first few years of the club's existence were reportedly intentionally destroyed. The club competed with a number of teams up and down the Atlantic seaboard as a member of the Eastern Rugby Union and later joined the United States of America Rugby Football Union. The team has toured outside the region, including vists to Great Britian and has hosted teams from the United States and abroad. Less

The records of the North Carolina State University chapter of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society, document the formation and evolution of the chapter. These records, containing materials from 1932 to 2015, include correspondence, meeting notes, administrative files, and other documents that detail the club's activities, including meetings, scientific lectures, research awards, administrative activities, and participation in activities of the national organization. The Sigma Xi Club was formed at North Carolina State College in 1938 and successfully petitioned to obtain Chapter status in the national Society of the Sigma Xi in 1944. The Society is dedicated to promoting and recognizing research achievements in a wide variety of scientific fields. The Chapter's activities include meetings, scientific lectures, research awards, administrative activities, and participation in activities of the national organization. Less

Notable topics include the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War, labor, political activism, spirituality, and popular culture. Character and professional development organizations, social and service fraternities and sororities, honorary societies, religious, ethnic, and international clubs, arts, media, and social action organizations, governing and representative councils, and special interest organizations are all represented. North Carolina State University is a public, land-grant, research university that is part of the University of North Carolina System. Founded in 1887, it was at first known as the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. In 1917, its name changed to the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering. Since 1962, it has been known as North Carolina State University. Students began forming organizations early in the history of North Carolina State University to enrich their college experiences. Over time, more organizations were formed to reflect a variety of interests and concerns among students, faculty, and staff of North Carolina State University. Less

The records of the State College Woman's Club (later the North Carolina State University Woman's Club) document the club's history and activities from 1919 to 2012 and include the club constitution and by-laws, annual reports, yearbooks, historical scrapbooks, photographs, membership lists, committee reports, newsletters, correspondence, agendas, minutes, expense and accounting information, and newspaper clippings documenting club, member, and university activities. Cookbooks produced by the group, Favorite Foods From Faculty Kitchens (1974) and Foods That Rate at NC State (1983), are also included. Spouses of many notable NC State professors and administrators were involved in shaping and leading the State College Woman's Club, including Mrs. Zeno Metcalf, Mrs. W. C. Riddick, and Mrs. B. W. Wells. The North Carolina State College Woman's Club (later the North Carolina State University Woman's Club) was formed in 1919 to "unite the women connected with the college in a common interest for the promotion of welfare and advancement of State College" (later N.C. State University). The club also sought to provide opportunities for faculty members and their families to become better acquainted with each other, striving to promote a sense of community for those involved in the university. Originally membership was open to all women connected with the university, though, especially in the early years, the membership focus was on faculty wives. The Student Government records contain meeting minutes, agenda, correspondence, news releases, publications, and financial records generated as a result of the establishment and activities of Student Government on NC State University's campus. Of particular interest are documents describing the "Student Rebellion" of 1905 which facilitated the need for student governing on campus as well as records documenting the ratification of the Constitution in 1955 and the creation of the Student Senate in 1969. There are also records concerning campus elections, political rallies and community involvement as well as student "disturbances" on and off campus. In addition, the collection contains publications of student government laws, bound copies of annual records and community service type publications which were circulated among the entire student body. The records also contain digital media related to the Student Government website, as well as archived content of the official website itself, beginning in 2017. Student Government at North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) began in 1921. At that time, the group was made up of both students and faculty and was called Campus Government. Following the establishment of the Faculty Senate in 1954, a new Student Government Constitution was ratified in 1955, reestablishing a separate Student Government which included a student body president and governing committees. The Student Senate came into being in 1969 with the ratification of the Student Body Constitution. Less

The records of the Delta Rho Chapter (North Carolina State University’s chapter) of the Theta Chi Fraternity include by-laws, newspaper clippings, newsletters, social event fliers, campus organization information sheets, and miscellaneous papers relating to the fraternity. Theta Chi is a social fraternity which seeks to provide an environment of mental, physical, social, and moral excellence, through which it can provide the opportunity for the exceptional student of today to become a prominent leader of tomorrow. The Theta Chi Fraternity was founded at Norwich University in Norwich, Vermont in 1856. Theta Chi merged with the Beta Kappa Fraternity in the 1930s. The Delta Rho Chapter of Theta Chi was founded at North Carolina State University in 1952. The maxim of Theta Chi Fraternity is "Alma Mater First and Theta Chi for Alma Mater." Less
