About This Workshop

Distilling large bodies of text into legible patterns is an iterative and systematic process. To accomplish this task, social scientists develop a codebook, an exhaustive and mutually exclusive list of terms into which pieces of text can be fitted. And, any given text can be coded at several codes, allowing for cross-coding that produces a web in which people are embedded and act. In this workshop, we will go over different types of qualitative coding and the process of codebook development. This will provide a base of information to guide you in developing an analytical framework for your qualitative research project. In the workshop, we will mix lecture with hands-on activities for you to employ qualitative coding in your future projects.
