About This Workshop
Please note that this course has moved to 11:30-1pm due to Hill Library closing early on Friday, August 4.
This course offers introductory theory and methods in social network analysis (SNA). Split across three sections, students can expect to learn the basic theory behind social network analysis; including basic data management, more advanced analytic tools that use network data to inform us about the structure and nature of social relations, and basic visualization. Each of the three courses will build on the former, however students with some former basic knowledge on social networks can attend later classes (i.e.on analytics or visualizations). While there are many softwares that can be used for SNA, this course is based in R’s igraph or statnet packages. This course encourages but does not require some basic understanding of coding. Students of all stages and abilities are welcome. Free online resources for students will be provided to aid advancement beyond this course.
This second session will deal with more advanced SNA theories and get into some advanced analytics with some advanced experiential learning in R dealing with data analysis and interpretation.
