Barbara Richards is a native of Kannapolis who worked for decades as a secretary at Cannon Mills, including time as one of David Murdock's three personal secretaries. When Pillowtex closed the doors of the mills in 2004, Richards went to work as an administrative assistant at the Cannon Foundation. A fuller description of the Cannon Foundation can be found on their website.

This interview was organized around several major themes: Richards' personal history; what Kannapolis was like while she was growing up; and the experience of Kannapolis in the wake of the Pillowtex closings.
