Virtual Computing Laboratory

The Virtual Computing Laboratory (VCL) is a service that allows you to reserve a computer with a desired set of applications for yourself, and remotely access it over the Internet via your personal computer. Through the VCL, you can use applications such as Matlab, Maple, SAS, Solidworks, NVivo, and many others. Linux, Solaris and numerous Windows environments are now available to all NC State students and faculty.

The VCL is generally engineered to support research that is not dependent on uptime, does not need backups, and is not meant for long-term access. The service is largely self-administered, although support staff may be able to assist with troubleshooting. Additionally, the service is unable to accommodate research requiring GPU support and is not recommended for research generating sensitive or restricted data.
