Children of Time is a science fiction story where a scientist with a god complex accidentally supercharges the intelligence of spiders on a terraformed planet, giving rise to an entire arachnid civilization. The book follows generations of spiders as their civilization grows and they develop their own language, history, culture, technology, and even social mores, all of which is influenced by their arachnid biology. When the humans return to the planet and the two species come into conflict, the human characters are so terrible you end up rooting for the spiders. Rated 7/8.
