I’m usually a reader who values complex characters and strong writing over plot, but this was one of those rare books with a story I genuinely did not see coming. According to my reading app, I started A Touch of Jen on May 31 and finished it on June 2—and I still haven’t stopped thinking about it. It’s about two people in an unhappy relationship, but they are bonded by their mutual obsession with an old coworker, Jen. The first half feels like a satire about Millennials, but the second half just goes entirely off the rails. If you like dark comedy, thrillers, and/or making fun of self-help books, you won’t be able to put this down.
