Meet the people who preserve NC State’s history—and check out some hidden treasures from the Libraries’ collections—at a Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) open house on Wednesday, April 12, 12:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. in the Hill Library’s Special Collections Reading Room. This drop-in event is free and open to the public; no pre-registration is necessary.

You can explore rare collection highlights and get a hands-on look at the fascinating items and collections that are available to the public. Some items on display will include:

  • selections from our rare books collection showing the history of science, design, agriculture, and many other topics;
  • architectural drawings and design sketches of modernist architects and faculty from the College of Design;
  • selected notebooks, diaries, and letters of earlier generations of NC State students and faculty;
  • an electric guitar created by an NC State engineering student in the 1920s;
  • and photographs and documents from the university's archives.

You’ll also get to meet SCRC staff and learn about how we acquire, preserve, organize, and provide access to these materials. We’ll have some of the tools that we use to archive physical and digital materials, and we’ll demonstrate some of the processes we use to share these materials with researchers.

Join us for this fun and unique opportunity to discover how we work with these special collections!
