Mac Laptop Wireless Connection Instructions

Connect with the Kramer VIA app

These instructions are for use with your personal Mac laptop. The Mac laptops checked out from the library cannot connect wirelessly to the screen, you must use an HDMI cable.

Download and install Kramer VIA

Update your security settings

  1. Open “System Settings”. You can find this in your Apple menu, dock (usually), or Spotlight (Cmd+[spacebar], type "system settings".
  2. Select “Security & Privacy”.
  3. Click the "padlock" symbol in the bottom left corner.
  4. Log in with your username and password you use to log into your computer.
  5. Click "unlock". The "padlock" symbol should now appear to be unlocked.
  6. Select “Bluetooth” under the Privacy List.
  7. Click the toggle next to VIA and  in the applications list to turn it on.
    • If  VIA is not in the list of applications in Step 7, you can add it.
      1. Click the “+” symbol just below the application list
      2. Select “Applications” on the left.
      3. Find the missing application in the list in the middle of the window
      4. Click "Open". This will add the missing application to the list in Step 7.
      5. Follow the directions in Step 7 to add the required permissions to the newly added application.
  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for the "Full disk access" and "Screen recording" sections under the Privacy List

Launch Kramer VIA

  1. Open Kramer VIA .You can find this from your Applications folder, dock, or Spotlight (Cmd+[spacebar], type "via")
  2. Enter the "Room name" on the display screen into the "Search IP/DNS Name" text box.
  3. Click the "Join" button.
  4. VIA will open a new window asking for the "Room Code".
  5. Enter the number on the screen (note that it may have changed since you last looked at it!)
  6. Click "Join".
  7. VIA will send an alert asking, "Do you want to present audio?" Click "No".
  8. In a few moments, your screen will be mirrored onto the room screen.
