Graphic designer Walter C. Barrett visits March 31 for a virtual talk about graphic design and storytelling

“Everyone is capable of fulfilling their goals as long as they put the work in and stay motivated.”

This inspiring message is easy to say but harder to put into practice—as graphic designer Walter C. Barnett has done. Barnett talks about his career path on Thursday, March 31, 7:00pm to 8:00pm online as part of the Libraries’ Making Space series. The virtual talk is free and open to the public; pre-registration is required.

Skilled in illustration, brand identity, design principles, and studio arts, Barnett has accumulated an impressive resume working for J Cole, Dreamville, ESPN, 14th St Y, WattsWords Productions, multiple on and off broadway productions, and more. A Wilmington native currently based in Fayetteville, Barnett has a breadth of knowledge not just in graphic design, but also in learning how to market yourself, obtaining and maintaining freelance work, working with strict deadlines, and collaborating with clients.

Regardless of the client or the contract, Barnett holds storytelling at the core of his work.

“I've been blessed to work with a number of clients and brands,”he says. “I most enjoy working with my cousin, Daniel J. Watts. The work we do together tells stories, inspires, and is personal to both of us—as well as our families.”

“I'm always growing and still learning. My next step is to continue growing as a creative and continue to tell stories.”
