Vandegrift involved with two new grants

Open Knowledge Librarian Micah Vandegrift is the Association of Research Libraries Visiting Program Officer for Accelerating the Social Impact of Research, and indeed he has had his foot on the gas pedal.

Vandegrift is a co-PI on a Code for Science and Society Event Fund grant awardee for the Mentored Open Research Experience (MORE). MORE aims to teach technical skills and provide authentic research experiences to students who are negatively impacted by bias selection and often ineligible to apply for federally funded research programs. Claire Gordy (Assistant Teaching Professor, Department of Biological Sciences, NC State) is the grant lead and the grant amount is $16,000.

He is also a co-planner for the Open Climate Data Science workshop awarded to Kathie Dello and Jessica Matthews. The workshop promotes the benefits of climate science research being conducted and produced alongside stakeholders in order for communities to prepare for, respond to, and adapt to climate change. The ultimate objective of the workshop is to coordinate a centralized initiative at NC State to support open climate data science across North Carolina, including collaboration proposals developed during the workshop.
