About This Event
Talk:
THE IDEA OF BELONGING IN A DIVERSE WORLD
Diversity and inclusion mean so much more than race and gender.
In this inspirational, eye-opening talk, entrepreneur and disability advocate John Samuel shares why everyone must broaden their idea of what it means to be truly inclusive.
As CEO of Ablr, John shares his incredible journey as a blind entrepreneur who's creating digital accessibility for all in a world tethered to technology. Learn why you must remove barriers that limit people with disabilities and open a world of possibilities for all.
This program is perfect for:
- Leaders looking to implement diversity and inclusion programs
- Human resource managers needing to broaden their talent pipelines
- Teams wanting to diversify their organization with people from varied backgrounds
- Technology companies eager to achieve digital equity
The audience will leave with:
- An understanding of digital accessibility and its importance
- Why diversity and inclusion is much more than race and gender
- Why proximity builds empathy
Please register here to participate in the discussion.
Workshop:
As an accompaniment to his talk, John will facilitate a workshop that will introduce participants to designing for assistive technology. Participants will learn how to use a screen reader and will walk through the process of conducting a web accessibility assessment. The demonstrations will be done in iOS. Participants are encouraged to bring an iPhone or iPad so that they can follow along. If you do not have access to an iPhone or iPad, you can borrow one from the Libraries. Alternatively, John will also be sharing his screen and narrating his actions so that participants can follow along that way as well.
The workshop will begin at 4:00 PM on April 8th and is limited to current NC State students, faculty, and staff.
Please register here to participate in the workshop.
