About This Event
Join us for a book discussion of Octavia Butler’s acclaimed 1979 novel, which will be facilitated by Alexis Briggs, NC State PhD. student in Applied Social and Community Psychology. Kindred tells the story of Dana, a modern Black woman who is teleported abruptly from her home in California to the antebellum South. Considered a sci-fi classic (though it defies genre characterization), the novel explores racism, sexism, violence, and family bonds and identity. Pre-registration required and space is limited to 30 attendees. Please register here.
Alexis Briggs is a second-year doctoral student in the Applied Social and Community Psychology program at NC State. She is an instructor, avid reader, and a huge Octavia Butler fan!
Kindred is available through the NC State University Libraries as an ebook, or check your local public library for holdings.
