About This Workshop

Professor of Music Technology at Penn State University and Coffee & Viz guest speaker Mark Ballora will guide participants through the process of sonifying data, providing an introductory experience to using sound to represent properties of a dataset. Expect to learn some of the decisions that must be considered when mapping data to sound by using free, introductory tools to generate audio files from a provided dataset. This workshop is designed for both researchers interested in exploring a different mode of data representation and artists that might be interested in incorporating data into sound.
