Richard has had a long and illustrious career as an educator, landscape architect, chief project director, and office administrator. Of particular interest to this oral histories project, he was a North Carolina State University School (now College) of Design faculty member from 1962 to 1968. He served as head of the landscape architecture department for most of those years. In 1982, he was accepted as a Fellow in the American Society of Landscape Architects.
