In the first of this year's NCSU Libraries lecture series, John C. McIlwee and Allison Bergman of the University Theatre at North Carolina State University will give a behind-the-scenes look at two upcoming productions, Urinetown and Dancing at Lughnasa . Attendees will learn about the challenges of mounting a university theater production, the creative process, and how students prepare for their roles.

McIlwee and Bergman, director and assistant director of the theater, will be joined by student actors from Urinetown , who will perform songs from the show. The Tony Award-winning play, which ran for nearly 1,000 shows on Broadway, is a satirical comedy musical with an unconventional plotline that explores what might happen to the workings of a society if a government were to ban private toilets and the public was forced to use public amenities regulated by a greedy company with a pay-per-use monopoly. Dancing at Lughnasa is a memory play set in Ireland's County Donegal in the 1930s as a poor family's first radio sparks an outburst of emotional freedom. Also produced on Broadway, Dancing at Lughnasa won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1992.
