Jennifer Garrett, Associate Director for Organizational Design, Equity, & Talent, has been appointed to the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (DEIC).

Committee members serve for two years and play important strategic roles in accomplishing the Association’s objectives. The DEIC is charged with promoting social justice within ARL and among member libraries and archives. Its purview is broadly defined, encompassing diversity in all its dimensions: race, gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, physical abilities, and others. The committee articulates the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice within ARL's goals and priorities and embraces an organizational culture that is strengthened by multiple opinions and perspectives. The committee also collaborates with the ARL Academy and Advocacy and Public Policy on initiatives of common interest.

“I am very excited to join ARL’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee,” Garrett says. “I’ve benefited from ARL’s diversity initiatives, as both a library school student and professional librarian, participating first as an ARL Career Enhancement Program Fellow, followed by being accepted as a Diversity Scholar, and serving as a Leadership and Career Development Program Fellow from 2018-2019 with my cohort electing me to represent them in the ARL Fall Meeting’s presentation.”

“I recognize the importance, power, and impact of the work ARL does in areas of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and how deeply invested I am in continuing to do work that advances ARL’s mission, vision, and actions in these areas.”

The DEIC advises the Association on all matters related to the Association’s efforts in this arena and makes recommendations to the Executive Director and, as appropriate, to the Board.
