The Libraries threw a party for Vice Provost and Director of Libraries Susan K. Nutter at the North Carolina Museum of Art in June to celebrate her “30 years of innovative leadership.” Speakers included Gov. James B. Hunt, Jr., Chancellor Randy Woodson, Provost Warwick Arden, Friends of the Library Board President Brian Boothe, author and musician Clyde Edgerton, Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Brian Sischo, and Dr. Suzanne Kennedy-Stoskopf.Susan speaks with a guest at the SKN 30 event.

The evening featured a red carpet “step and repeat” photo op, a catered dinner, a signature cocktail (a gin and bourbon concoction called the “Force of Nature”), two hilarious musical interludes by Edgerton including “The Susan Nutter Librarian Blues,” and an emotional trio of toasts (with cognac) by Woodson.Chancellor Woodson and his wife pose with event guests on the red carpet.

The Development and External Relations departments teamed up to produce three tribute videos shown during the party, interviewing over 30 friends, colleagues, student leaders, and staff members about how Nutter has affected NC State and their own lives and careers. One video gives memories of Nutter’s early work at the Libraries; another offers reflections on Nutter’s leadership under the title “That’s Susan;” and a third contains a series of heartfelt thank you’s.
