Cats vs. Dogs: Special Collections Display in Veterinary Medicine Library

"Spratt's Book on Cats" (1951) and "Hints on the Care and Feeding of Dogs" (1935) published by Spratt’s pet food company.

As part of our collecting areas, the Special Collections Research Center holds collections related to veterinary medicine, zoological health, and animal welfare that support the work of researchers both on campus, including at the College of Veterinary Medicine, and beyond.

Special collections items on display in the Kenan Library of Veterinary Medicine.

In conjunction with the recent Friends of the Library's Library Libations event "K9, Feline, Equine + Wine" in the William Rand Kenan, Jr. Library of Veterinary Medicine, the SCRC installed a display of collection items highlighting a timeless rivalry: cats versus dogs.

Rare books, photographs, and pamphlets on display illustrate the ways that cats and dogs have been portrayed in popular culture, and how they have been treated in veterinary medicine over time. Visitors are invited to view the items on display now through December 2017.
