The Libraries is adding and refreshing furniture and doing some construction projects this summer

It’s calmer all around NC State’s campus over the summer months—except at the Libraries. We take the opportunity to refresh aging furniture and to reconstruct spaces as the needs of our users change. A number of exciting projects are underway to have new and expanded spaces ready for the fall 2023 semester. In total, these projects will provide over 200 new study seats and over 600 refreshed seats at the Hill and Hunt Libraries.

Here’s a summary of some of the work this summer at the Libraries:

At Hill Library, projects include:

  • A new office suite for the Data Science Academy
  • New collaborative furniture in the open seating area near the Assembly Room
  • Installing over 20 new study pods and study carrels in the stacks to replace carrels that were in poor condition
  • Installing glass panels on the first floor of the West Wing and adding colorful new flooring and furniture to that area, including 25 new study seats
  • Installing new tables and chairs for the VR Studio in the West Wing
  • Replacing almost 300 worn and outdated study chairs with new ergonomic study seating

At Hunt Library, projects include:

  • Adding 38 new study seats on the north and east sides of the Technology Showcase, and another 16 seats in the Showcase space itself
  • Adding 20 new study pods and carrels in the second floor corridor near the Immersion Theater
  • Adding 18 new study seats in the quiet reading room on the second floor, and over 30 new study seats west of the reading room
  • Adding 48 new study seats on the fourth floor where shelving was recently removed, along with 12 new study seats nearby
  • Adding 16 new study seats to the Skyline Reading Room
  • Replacing over 300 worn and outdated study chairs with new ergonomic study seating
