The Libraries is partnering with the NC State Video Game Development Club (VGDC) and the charity organization Extra Life on a marathon video game streaming competition on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Proceeds from the competition go to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

NC State will be competing against other universities in this event, including Georgia State and Northeastern, to see which school can raise the most money for St. Jude’s. The central stream will be hosted on the Libraries YouTube channel but any interested NC State students are encouraged to participate.

And you can participate by gaming all day! Register your own stream here—your stream must be somehow related to games, but feel free to get creative with it!

“I’m most looking forward to being able to actually do some tangible good for these children’s hospitals,” says Jack Grace, Branding Officer for the VGDC. “The event itself will be fun too, but knowing that what I'm doing is actively raising money for children in need really makes it worth the effort that’s going into planning it.”

In that planning process, the club found an ideal partner in the Libraries. “When deciding how we wanted to set up our central stream, our President mentioned the Libraries' streaming space available with a professional streaming setup, which was exactly what we needed to make this event work,” Grace says. “Without this streaming space that we have been allowed to use, the stream would be much harder to set up. and would likely end up being much lower in quality overall.”

If you just want to watch the streams, there will be a list of streamers on our event page here. And if you want to donate to help NC State win, make a donation here.
