The Global Film Series screens the anime "Night is Short, Walk on Girl" on Sept. 26

Adding a delightfully adolescent chapter to the “one wild night” genre of films, the 2017 anime “Night is Short, Walk on Girl” screens Tuesday, Sept. 26, 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Witherspoon Student Center Campus Theater (2810 Cates Ave.) as part of the Global Film Series.

The film is free and open to the public; pre-registration is required.

In this madcap anime comedy from Japan, director Masaaki Yuasa invites viewers to one epic night in Kyoto, when a college sophomore goes on a series of surreal encounters with the local nightlife, all the while unaware of the romantic longings of her classmate Senpai. Can love survive party crashing, supernatural beings, used book festivals, spicy food-eating contests and the great Don Underwear?

Yuasa and his team won the 2017 Japanese Film Award for Animation for “Walk on Girl,” the eclectic visual style of which features visual references to “Yellow Submarine,” “Spirited Away,” Tex Avery cartoons and M.C. Escher’s work.

Japanese with English subtitles. Runtime 1:33. View the trailer here.
