The Libraries awards a number of part-scholarships every year to our outstanding Libraries student workers as part of our efforts to support student success and affordability. Since 2018, we've awarded 35 scholarships of varying amounts totalling $119,000. For the academic year 2022–23, philanthropic support for the Libraries Student Scholarship Fund has allowed us to support 10 of our talented students with scholarships worth $36,000 in total. This profile is one in a series that lets our scholarship winners tell their stories.

Today we profile Callie McAdoo, a junior studying Global Perspectives and International Studies who works in Libraries Administration. Fascinated by different cultures in her youth, she has built upon that interest to think deeply about the interdependence of the world.

What are your hobbies and activities outside of school?
Outside of school I have another part-time job at Starbucks. My favorite thing to do in my free time is read. I really enjoy spending time with friends and family, as well as exercising. I enjoy traveling and photography, too.

Why did you choose to work at the Libraries? What roles have libraries played in your life in general?
I chose to work at the Libraries because I was extremely interested in what goes on behind the scenes. Usually students just think of the library as a place to study, but don't really consider all the work that goes into the Libraries to allow it to run. I wanted to work in the Libraries to learn more about these processes.

What do you hope to do after you graduate?
Although I'm not quite sure of what to do once I graduate, I am thinking of working in Japan or South Korea for a few years. I want to work in these locations because Japanese is my minor, and I previously studied abroad for a semester in Korea. I eventually would like to work in a humanitarian organization where I can utilize my degree in International Studies.

What have you learned through your work at the Libraries? How does your work at the Libraries support or lead into your post-graduation plans?
I was interested in the roles of staff in the library and what allows it to function. My work in administration has given me time-management skills and patience.

How will a Libraries scholarship help you on your educational/personal path? Is there anything specific that the scholarship will enable or help you to do?
This scholarship helps me fund my education, allowing me to obtain a degree which I can utilize in the workforce. I intend to use this scholarship as a personal means of motivation to continue working hard, keep my grades high, and graduate next semester.
