Register now for an evening of writing poems and doing crafts in the Art United workshop on Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in the Hill Library Fishbowl Forum.

In this hands-on workshop, you can work alone or in pairs or groups to write poems and create crafts and objects that express your family histories or personal stories. Centered on language as inheritance/heirlooms, the workshop is inspired by Tiya Miles’s award-winning nonfiction book All That She Carried, in which Miles unpacks the transferring of love and provision through ‘Ashley’s sack,' the language on it, and the small items placed within it. You are welcome to bring items to the workshop that will help you experience and create something new, whether that’s a handmade craft or an earlier writing piece.

The workshop will be led by poet and author Patricia L. Ndombe, an MFA Creative Writing student at NC State. Tiya Miles will visit the Libraries to give an author talk on Thursday, Oct. 27, 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. in the Hunt Library’s Auditorium.

No prior experience is required and all materials will be provided. Free and open to all NC State students, staff, and faculty. Space is limited and registration is required. Please register here.

Art United programs are co-sponsored by the NC State University Libraries and the MFA Creative Writing program.
