Apply now for the latest round of the Libraries’ Alt-Textbook Grants—a faculty incentive initiative encouraging the use of open textbooks while maintaining high-quality course design and instruction.

Since 2013, this granting program has worked with over 100 different instructors, representing each of the colleges, to adapt Open Educational Resources (OER) into their courses, saving students millions of dollars in textbook costs and helping instructors to create high-quality, tailored educational materials. The program is a collaboration between the Libraries and DELTA.

We invite proposals from individual faculty and departmental groups for projects to explore and adopt open textbooks. The 2023 cycle of grants application deadline is Friday, Dec. 9. The full call for proposals and online application form are on the Libraries website.

Grants are available in several categories that support instructors in different ways. Faculty can receive a grant to Review an Open Textbook that would be appropriate for their class or a class in their department, posting the review on the Open Textbook Library. They can get support in Adapting/Adopting an Open Textbook, redesigning their course to incorporate an open textbook. They can get an Open Pedagogy grant to support innovative teaching and learning. And they can request a grant for Department/Group Adoption, choosing open textbooks for three or more classes and adopting them as the assigned textbook for the classes. Visit the Alt-Textbook Grant Application page for details and requirements for these categories.
