Google Jamboards come to the Libraries

Whiteboards are great for collaborative work, but what if your collaborators are across campus—or across the continent? The Google Jamboard is designed to bridge that gap, while integrating the power and ease of Google apps into the whiteboard experience.

Continuing the NCSU Libraries’ tradition of bringing emerging technology to the hands of students, we now have four Jamboards—students and faculty can just walk up and use them. Two Jamboards will be deployed in D. H. Hill Jr., in the Learning Commons and the lobby. Two more will be at the Hunt Library in the third-floor Learning Commons and the Technology Showcase.

Incorporating handwriting and shape recognition, Jamboards work like a whiteboard but with a 55-inch, 4k display that enables the best of Google Search as well as access to your work in G Suite. You can grab and place images and content from the web, pull in work from Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, and add content stored in Google Drive. And you can save your work to Drive to share or resume later.

Collaborators in up to 16 locations can join from other Jamboards or their own phones and tablets with the Jamboard app (get from the App Store or download for Android and iOS).

“The Libraries at NC State embrace designs to fit students' current way of learning, working, and living. Jamboard was created with these core principles too—where collaboration and convenience are priorities,” says Jonathan Rochelle, Director of Product Management at Google.

“Having a tool like Jamboard in an environment like the Libraries gives students and educators the opportunity to work together, include others who are remote and later access their work and ideas in a simple way, from any device, securely and reliably.”
