North Carolina State University, Chancellor's Faculty Excellence Program, Emerging Plant Disease and Global Food Security Faculty Cluster Records 2016-2020

The Emerging Plant Disease and Global Food Security Faculty Cluster at North Carolina State University is one of 20 cross-disciplinary research groups in the Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program (CFEP). The CFEP was established in 2011 in an effort to “bring together the brightest minds in a range of academic disciplines and give them the support to tackle global issues,” and includes more than 75 faculty members across the university’s 10 colleges. Directed by Dr. Jean Ristaino, William Neal Reynolds Professor of Plant Pathology, the Emerging Plant Disease and Global Food Security Faculty Cluster researches plant diseases and agricultural pests that threaten the global food supply.

According to their website, the Emerging Plant Disease and Global Food Security Cluster's mission is as follows:

The faculty cluster will develop new knowledge to understand the fundamental basis of emerging diseases caused by pathogens of plants – including the development of tools – enabling a more rapid response to contain and limit potential damage by emerging threats. The cluster will study plant pathogens and their arthropod vectors that transmit them in nature, in agriculture, and post-harvest making linkages from genomes to ecosystem processes. The Emerging Plant Disease and Global Food Security Cluster faculty have expertise in biology of emerging plant disease agents, green biotechnology, engineering, data science, and geospatial analytics. Colleges participating in the cluster are the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (lead), the College of Engineering, the College of Sciences, and the College of Natural Resources.
