Scope/content
The Office of the Dean Records for the Graduate School at North Carolina State University contain correspondence, reports, course action forms, graduate guidelines and financial projections relating to the administration of the Graduate School. Records include a thesis manual, graduate research grants and proposals, and materials pertaining to the National Science Foundation, the National Academy of Sciences, the Research Triangle Institute, the Executive Council of the Consolidated University, African American student programs, the Western Electric Company, the American Council on Education, and The Southern Regional Education Board.
Graduate Program reviews contain correspondence and reports relating to the department reviews of the graduate programs. Graduate reports include self-study evaluations as well as external reviews by the North Carolina State University faculty from outside the department. Evaluation reports include statistical data on faculty, students, programs and facilities. Student training, research, and special programs and outreach features are also examined. In addition, each department's goals, regional, national, and international rankings are examined in order for the graduate school to provide innovative degree programs.
Materials range in date from 1914 to 2018.
Arrangement
The records of the Office of the Dean of the Graduate School are organized into three series: General Administrative Records, Graduate Program Reviews, and Unprocessed Records. Records are arranged alphabetically by topic or title within each series with the exception of Unprocessed Records, which are arranged in the order received.
Born-digital materials are integrated into series based on content. The original order of the files has been retained.

Graduate Program Reviews 1983-2004 (Series 2)
Size: 10.5 linear feet
The Graduate Program Reviews series contains correspondence and reports relating to the department reviews of the graduate programs, arranged in alphabetical order. Graduate program reviews include internal evaluation involving self-study of the program by the department itself, and an external review by North Carolina State University faculty from outside the department and reviewers from the same field from the university.
Evaluation reports include not only statistical data on faculty, students, programs, and facilities, but also aims of the department concerning student training, research, and special programs and outreach features. Graduate Program Reviews examine the history, degree program objectives, administration, policy, curriculum, and student research. By reviewing individual departments' strengths and weaknesses, the graduate program is better able to reflect the university's significance to the economic and intellectual vitality of the state. Materials in the Graduate Program Reviews series range in date from 1983 to 2004.
