Access to materials

Collection is open for research; access requires at least 48 hours advance notice. Because of the nature of certain archival formats, including digital and audio-visual materials, access will require additional advanced notice. Unless noted, digital media are not available online. Copies of unrestricted digital files will be provided for use in the SCRC Reading Room upon request. Access will be provided to use copies of unrestricted digital files rather than carrier media, such as CDs, DVDs, and floppy disks. Some or all electronic files may be unavailable or restricted due to privacy reasons, agreement with the donor, software is not available to interact with files, or because files cannot be retrieved from original media.

The Center for Advanced Computing and Communications, based in the College of Engineering, created concepts, methods, and tools for use in the analysis, design, and implementation of advanced computer and communication systems. The collection includes technical reports which range in date from 1990 to 2003.

Biographical/historical note

The Center for Advanced Computing and Communications (formerly Center for Communications and Signal Processing) was formed in 1983 as a National Science Foundation/University Cooperative Research Center. The Center was formed in response to the explosive growth of the internet and the advanced computing and communications systems that support it. At the Center, multi-disciplinary teams collaborated with researchers from industry, government agencies, and other universities to develop and implement these systems. CACC's primary goal was to create concepts, methods, and tools for use in the analysis, design, and implementation of advanced computer and communication systems.

The Center no longer exists, as of 2012.

Scope/content

The North Carolina State University, College of Engineering, Center for Advanced Computing and Communications Records contain technical reports about computer related topics such as file transfer, telecommunications, networks, and coding. Some of these are under the former name, the Center for Communications and Signal Processing. Technical reports from the 1980s and 1990s can be accessed online in the NC State Repository.
