This collection is divided into five series, each containing a different kind of material: slides, photographs, negatives, other, and oversized. Subjects include aerial views; buildings and places; events; golf; maps, models, and renderings; other research parks; people, presentation materials; and transportation. Between 1984 and 1985, Governor James B. Hunt, Jr. and Governor James G. Martin transferred over 800 acres of state land to North Carolina State University. The university, led by Chancellor Bruce Poulton, settled on the idea of creating Centennial Campus, a technopolis where university units, governmental entities, and private industry could share facilities and collaborate on projects. With the guidance of coordinator Claude E. McKinney, the campus attracted a variety of tenants, such as ABB, Red Hat, Inc., and the National Weather Service and saw the relocation of the College of Textiles and phased segments of the College of Engineering.

This collection is divided into five series, each representing a different kind of material: Slides, Photographs, Negatives, Other Materials, and Oversized. The items in each of the series are arranged into a subset of the same subjects. Items within the subjects are arranged alphabetically if appropriate, then placed in chronological order.
Series 1, Slides, makes up the most extensive portion of the Centennial Campus images. The slides are arranged into nine subjects: aerial views; buildings and places; events; golf; maps, models, and renderings; other research parks; people, presentation materials; and transportation. These subjects include images of land, construction, the ten-year celebration, and people mover systems used in other states.
Series 2, Photographs, contains some unique images, as well as others found in the Slides and Negatives series. Series 3 contains color negatives for a small number of the images found in Series 1 and 2. Subjects mirror those in Series 1.
Series 4 and 5 are both very small. Other Materials is made up of one folder containing labelled printouts of various buildings and sites. Most of the images are also present in Series 2, Photographs. Oversized contains one oversized photograph, an aerial view of Centennial Campus.

The Slides make up the most extensive portion of the Centennial Campus images. They are arranged into nine subjects: aerial views; buildings and places; events; golf; maps, models, and renderings; other research parks; people, presentation materials; and transportation. All of the major construction done on campus between 1985 and 2000 is represented, in addition to aerial views of the land and campus, the Dorothea Dix property, infrastructure, Lake Raleigh, and signage. ABB, the Engineering Graduate Research Center, the Lucent Site (later Red Hat), Research III, and Venture I are especially well-represented, as is the ten-year celebration and images of other research parks. The transportation images are primarily of people mover systems used in other states. In each subject, the slides are arranged alphabetically if appropriate, then placed in chronological order.
