North Carolina State University, Division of Student Affairs, Union Activities Board Records 1954, 1960, 1973, 1979-2023, 2000-ongoing

Founded in 1951 as the College Union Board of Chairmen and renamed in the early 1970s, the Union Activities Board develops and carries out social and cultural programs for students. The mission statement specified in the Union Activities Board bylaws, as revised on 18 March 2013, was “For students by students, the Union Activities Board creates innovative activities that stimulate, motivate, educate, and involve the student body.“

Seven committees were chartered in the bylaws as revised on 18 March 2013. Their duties and areas of concern were defined as:

1. Black Students Board: To bring unity and excitement among students, and to provide a social outlet, by creating political, spiritual, and cultural programs and activities. 2. Diversity Activities Board: To promote, produce, facilitate, and educate by conducting events that help students to become more aware and appreciate other backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives 3. Films: To provide students at N.C. State University with engaging films at the Campus Cinema and fun promotions, programs, and events related to those films. 4. Issues and Ideas: To provide students with information about current issues and a forum in which to discuss them. 5. Late Night and Concerts: To provide various forms of late night programs, and to plan and coordinate a variety of concerts for the student body. 6. Leisure and Entertainment: To provide various forms of general entertainment for the student body. 7. Marketing: To promote and publicize the Union Activities Board and its events through the use of all current marketing techniques in conjunction with the two Graphic Designers.

The records of the North Carolina State University, Division of Student Affairs, Union Activities Board contain meeting minutes, agendas, manuals, rosters, reports, budgets, proposals, photographs, slides, flyers, CDs, calendars, posters, handbills, membership forms, task list, correspondence, bulletins, and archived web content. Materials are dated from 1954 to present.

The collection is organized into six series: Union Activities Board Administration Files Black Students Board Files Student Organization and Student Event Files Scrapbook, Photographs, and Slides Posters and Flyers and Thompson Theatre Performances
