The George A. Gullette Papers contain documents from the beginning and end of the NC State career of this social studies professor. There is correspondence from 1947 regarding the college's interest in hiring Gullette to commence its social studies program (beginning with a contemporary civilization course modeled on one at Columbia University). Gullette's responses give insight into salary negotiations of the time period. A Lecture Given by the Late George A. Gullette To a Class in Social Studies is a printed version of a talk Gullette gave at North Carolina State University on January 13, 1969. The title Gullette gave this lecture is Prospects for the Future--The Next Twenty-Five Years. On March 19, 1970, the Friends of the Library distributed copies of the lecture at its annual banquet. In addition, portions of the lecture were read at Gullette's memorial service. George Albert Gullette (1909 - 1969) was the founder and head of the Social Studies Department at North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (after 1965, North Carolina State University) from 1947 to 1969. He received his B.A. in English literature from Harvard University in 1933, his M.A. from Vanderbilt University in 1934, and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1944. The International Textiles Collection contains domestic and foreign textile samples from the United States, England, France, and Switzerland dating from about 1907 to 1943. Among the samples are broadcloth, cottonade, crepe, dobby, gingham, jacquard, lace, leno, sateen, silk, tapestry, velvet, venetian, and voile. In addition to the fabric samples, the collection contains notes, notebooks, correspondence, and a news clipping, as well as both domestic and international reports on textile production, manufacturers, fabric weaving, and fabric costs. The Mary Yarbrough Papers (1825-2012) contains a variety of materials including correspondence, photographs, publications, music books, news clippings, photocopies, and artifacts, most of which document Yarbrough's life and career, as well as her family history. Mary Elizabeth Yarbrough (1904-1984) was one of the first women to receive a graduate degree (M.S. in chemistry, 1927) from North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University). Mary Yarbrough served on the faculty of Meredith College for many years (1929-1972). In 1941 she received a Ph.D. and Phi Beta Kappa key at Duke University. At Meredith College she headed the chemistry and physics department, and she became an assistant director of the cooperative education program. Less

The records of the Good Neighbor Council at North Carolina State University contain meeting minutes, correspondence, memoranda, annual reports and other reports, committee membership rosters, and other information regarding the activities of the committee in their duties to encourage employment and enrollment of qualified people without regard to race, religion, or other forms of discrimination. Materials range in date from 1966 to 1979. Founded in 1967 by North Carolina State University Chancellor John T. Caldwell, the Good Neighbor Council was charged with the responsibility of encouraging the employment of qualified people without regard to race, religion, or other forms of discrimination. The committee was also created to urge enrollment of minority students at North Carolina State University, especially African American students. As a result, the Good Neighbor Council acted as an instrument in resolving racial tensions on campus and dealing with discrimination felt by faculty, staff, and students on and off campus. This collection chiefly documents Ralph Clay Swann's work as Technical Director at the Redstone Arsenal Ordnance Missile Laboratories in Huntsville, Alabama, where he was responsible for the planning and execution of rocket propulsion research and solid propulsion development. Contained in the files are news clippings, photographs, certificates, citations, lectures and speeches given by Swann. A few items relate to Swann's education, to his work in private industry, or to his work at North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University). Born in West Virginia in 1912, Ralph Swann received a B.S. in chemistry from Morris Harvey College and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Swann was a research chemist and director of research in private industry from 1933 to 1951. He served as Deputy Chief, Assistant Director and Technical Director of the Ordnance Missile Laboratories, Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama, 1953-1961. As Director, he was responsible for the planning and execution of rocket propulsion research and solid propulsion development. In January 1961, Dr. Swann came to North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) as Head of the Chemistry Department.
