This collection contains twelve black-and-white snapshot photographs of the North Carolina State University campus. Included are pictures of athletic fields, the power plant, Reynolds Coliseum (under construction), Alexander Hall, and the Bell Tower. Some show military maneuvers and athletic events or practice. There is one picture of buildings in Pullen Park, Raleigh, North Carolina. All photos date from 1944. The Jim Davis Photographs contain photographs, slides, and negatives of the NC State University campus, student life and activities, athletics, and Chancellor John Caldwell, among other topics. Selected images were used in the Agromeck yearbooks of 1972, 1973, and 1974. Most items were photographed by Jim Davis (editor of the 1975 Agromeck), but some were taken by Michael O'Brien and Jim Holcombe, also on the Agromeck staff. Less

This collection contains photographic negatives of Holladay Hall, the Court of North Carolina and the 1911 Building on the North Carolina State University campus, as well as Pullen Park in Raleigh. These images are dated 1936. There are also more recent prints made from the negatives, and a CD with digital scans of the images. The CD also contains images of Hamlet, North Carolina, and an unidentified group of people, but original negatives and prints were not included with the donation of this collection. The bulk of this records subgroup consists of black-and-white photographic prints that document the history of North Carolina State University’s physical campus and facilities from 1889 to the 1990s, but it also contains related color prints, negatives, contact prints, contact sheets, and slides. The images show interior and exterior views of buildings, outdoor facilities and constructed items, general campus views, views of the surrounding area, and aerial photographs. In addition, the photographs in this subgroup illustrate people, events, and activities related to the facilities and areas of campus they picture. This includes construction, renovations, beautification projects, groundbreakings, and dedication ceremonies. Some images demonstrate damage to or destruction of buildings, architectural and decorative details, and the moving of departments or items from one building to another. This subgroup also contains photographic copies of three-dimensional architectural models, architectural plans, artists renderings, sketches, floor plans, and maps In 1887, the North Carolina General Assembly passed legislation creating the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts, a land-grant institution to provide education, research, and extension services to the state. When the College opened in 1889, it consisted of a 62-acre site with one building. As the university's enrollment grew in the following decades, more land was acquired and more facilities were constructed. As of 2007, the University’s Raleigh campus consists of the Main Campus and Centennial Campus and comprises approximately 2,100 acres of land. The North Carolina College of Agricultural and Mechanic Arts was founded as the state's land-grant institution in 1887, and formally opened its doors two years later. In 1917, the school was renamed the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering, reflecting its broadened instructional and research activities.
