The Elliot Brown Grover reports and patent contain Grover and C. J. Hall's 1928 thesis, Construction and Improvement of Thickness Gauge for Textiles; Malcolm E. Campbell's 1933 report for the United States Department of Agriculture, Spinning Tests of Selected Bales of Sea Island, American-Egyptian, and Egyptian-Sakellaridis Cotton: A Preliminary Report; and Grover's 1943 patent for an apparatus to test the density of thread packages. Massachusetts native Elliot Brown Grover (1906 - 1997) joined the North Carolina State College (now North Carolina State University) faculty in 1944 as the head of the Yarn Manufacturing Department in the School of Textiles. In 1959, School of Textiles Head Malcolm E. Campbell appointed Grover the head of the school's new Department of Textile Technology. Grover received an honorary fellowship from the Textile Institute in Manchester, England, the organization's highest honor, in 1962. He authored numerous publications, including the Handbook of Textile Testing and Quality Control (1960). He was active in numerous professional organizations, including Sigma Xi and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Grover retired from the university in 1966. Less

This collection contains material documenting the career of Hayne Palmour, North Carolina State University Professor Emeritus of Ceramic Engineering. Included are biographical files, general correspondence, manuscripts, patents, administrative files, and research material generated by Palmour over a period of nearly six decades, from 1948 to 2004. Hayne Palmour began his career at North Carolina State University in 1958, retiring in 1994. During his tenure at North Carolina State, Palmour was active as a researcher, educator, advisor, and administrator. Specific research interests included mechanisms of flow and fracture in spinel structured ceramics, materials processing and rate controlled sintering, and precision digital dilatometry. His focus was in the development of processes for the firing of complex ceramics. His involvement with the international scientific and technical research community and many contributions that he made to the field of advanced ceramics engineering, the defense industry, and the world of nuclear power are documented in the collection. The Norman D. Anderson Collection on Ferris Wheels and Related Materials contains manuscript materials, newsletters, research files, photographs, postcards, and publications on Ferris wheels, amusement parks, and related subjects. The primary subject of the collection is the Ferris wheel. While the focus of the material is the Ferris wheel, there is also information relating to the history of amusement parks, amusement park preservation (or lack thereof), the amusement manufacturing industry and workers in the industry, as well as other material. Included are photographs and material about the Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893, as well as other World's Fairs. Dr. Norman D. Anderson is a Professor Emeritus of Science Education at North Carolina State University. In 1994 he retired after 31 years of teaching at North Carolina State University. He is a collector of materials on Ferris wheels and an ardent researcher of the Ferris wheel. Anderson authored the book Ferris Wheels: An Illustrated History, published in 1992, and he is coauthor of the 1983 children's book, Ferris Wheels as well as several science books for children. The records of the North Carolina State University (earlier North Carolina State College) Committee on Patents and Inventions are dated from 1940 to the 1970s. The Committee was appointed by the North Carolina State College Dean of Administration, Colonel J. W. Harrelson. The committee members were faculty of North Carolina State College. The records include patent policy and procedures, patent and invention disclosures, agenda, minute and meeting notes, annual reports, examples of patent and invention diagrams, Invention management brochures and articles of incorporation of the North Carolina State College Research Foundation. In 1940 Colonel J. W. Harrelson, Dean of Administration of North Carolina State College (later University), appointed a committee of faculty members to make recommendations on institutional policy governing patents and inventions developed in the laboratories of the college and to prepare papers, by-laws and other documents necessary for the establishment of a research foundation at the college. The name of the corporation was the North Carolina State College Research Foundation. The purpose of the corporation was to promote educational objectives by encouraging, fostering and conducting scientific investigations and industrial research and by training and developing persons for the conduct of such investigations and research. The Patent and Invention Committee was also responsible for reviewing patent applications and patent disclosures and for issuing patents to corporations or individuals. Less

Felder Papers contain copies of articles that Felder authored on chemical engineering and on teaching, teaching aids, booklets, correspondence, newspaper and magazine article clippings, research files, projects reports, personal materials, text copies of presentations he gave, other miscellaneous paper files, a video of one of his presentations, and three plaques representing awards Felder received. The collection also include his kindergarten graduation certificate and honorary degrees that he received from various US Universities. The collection includes a few materials in Italian and Portuguese languages. Richard M. Felder joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at North Carolina State University in 1969.
