The Elliot Brown Grover reports and patent contain Grover and C. J. Hall's 1928 thesis, Construction and Improvement of Thickness Gauge for Textiles; Malcolm E. Campbell's 1933 report for the United States Department of Agriculture, Spinning Tests of Selected Bales of Sea Island, American-Egyptian, and Egyptian-Sakellaridis Cotton: A Preliminary Report; and Grover's 1943 patent for an apparatus to test the density of thread packages. Massachusetts native Elliot Brown Grover (1906 - 1997) joined the North Carolina State College (now North Carolina State University) faculty in 1944 as the head of the Yarn Manufacturing Department in the School of Textiles. In 1959, School of Textiles Head Malcolm E. Campbell appointed Grover the head of the school's new Department of Textile Technology. Grover received an honorary fellowship from the Textile Institute in Manchester, England, the organization's highest honor, in 1962. He authored numerous publications, including the Handbook of Textile Testing and Quality Control (1960). This records subgroup contains correspondence among North Carolina State University College of Textiles faculty, staff, and administrators and other files relating to the operations of the school; budget material, and Textile Extension correspondence. Documentation in the academic series includes information regarding Textiles College and extension projects and research, and Textiles College brochures and catalogs. Budget material includes monthly and year-to-date budget and expenditure reports of the College, the North Carolina Textiles Foundation, as well as other personnel and financial aid paperwork. The Textiles Extension correspondence series consists of correspondence to and from textile industry representatives regarding applied research requests and information on instructional services provided by the College of Textiles. This subgroup was formerly numbered UA 130.5. The Office of Textile Extension and Applied Research works to enhance the relationship between the North Carolina State University College of Textiles and the textile industry. The Extension office offers continuing education opportunities to industry partners. The Applied Research program sponsors research projects to supplement education and encourage participation in industrial research and development. The Associate Dean oversees the programs and is a primary contact person for industry partners interested in education or research opportunities. Less
